Major Nordic film studio SF Studios, director Baltasar Kormákur, author Jo Nesbo , and James Bond screenwriters Neal Purvis & Robert Wade (who pens the screenplay for the 25th James Bond film due for release in 2019) teams up for I AM VICTOR, a film based on a new novel from Nesbo that will be published in 2019.

SF Studios has acquired the film rights for international best-selling Norwegian crime writer Jo Nesbo's upcoming novel I am Victor due for release in 2019. The story is an entertaining thriller about Victor – a skilled but morally corrupt and narcissistic divorce settlement lawyer who finds himself framed for a series of brutal murders thus starting his own investigation to find the killer.

Jo Nesbo’s crime novels have earned him countless international awards – most recently the prestigious Riverton Honor Prize - sold more than twenty million copies, and been translated into forty-seven languages.

Award winning Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur (Contraband, Everest, The Oath) is attached to direct and the renowned writing duo Neal Purvis & Robert Wade (The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and SPECTRE) is currently writing the screenplay.

Fredrik Wikström Nicastro (The Snabba Cash Trilogy) has put the project together and will produce for SF Studios together with Baltasar Kormakákur for Icelandic RVK Studios.

Producer Wikstrom Nicastro remarks, “I was completely blown away by Victor - this unique and totally outrageous character that Jo Nesbo has created and I am thrilled to bring him to the screen together with this fantastic team of collaborators.”

In a joint statement, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade said:

'We’re delighted to be working with Baltasar and SF Studios to bring this exciting Jo Nesbo thriller to the screen. Victor is a genuinely unique character and we’re looking forward to spending time with him.”

I AM VICTOR is one of the features included in SF Studio´s strategy to produce English language films in partnership with high level Scandinavian talent for the international market. SF Studios just recently enjoyed great success with its production A Man Called Ove (2015) that was nominated for two Academy Awards and is at present in post-production of Borg/McEnroe (2017) starring Sverrir Gudnasson, Shia LaBeouf and Stellan Skarsgård directed by Janus Metz (Armadillo).

I AM VICTOR marks the first collaboration between SF Studios and RVK Studios. Jo Nesbø and his agent Niclas Salomonsson are executive producers.

Tommy's Honour (2017) - The Pride of a Father. The Love of a Wife. The Sould of a Rebel. The Heart of a Champion. - is a new drama film directed by Jason Connery (his 5th film at the helm) based on the inspiring true story of the Morris family starring Peter Mullan (War Horse), Jack Lowden (’71), Ophelia Lovibond (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park). The film premieres at selected cinemas in the UK on 7th July 2017 (see listing below).

FSWL contributor Brian Smith, our man in Scotland who attended the gala premiere for the film on 30th June 2017 at New Picture House in St. Andrews with yours truly, commented:

"A beautifully shot movie that recreates late 1800s St. Andrews, including the Old Course and Royal & Ancient. The film showcases a cast and director at the top of their game."

Based on the powerfully moving true story of the challenging relationship between “Old” Tom and “Young” Tommy Morris, TOMMY’S HONOUR recounts the life of the dynamic father-son team who ushered in the modern game of golf.

As their fame grew, Tom and Tommy, considered by many to be Scotland’s Golf royalty, were touched by drama and personal tragedy. At first matching his father’s success, Tommy’s talent and fame grew to outshine his father’s accomplishments and respect as founder of the Open Championship in 1860 with a series of his own triumphs. But in contrast to Tommy’s public persona, his personal turmoil ultimately led him to rebel against both the aristocracy who gave him opportunity, and the parents who shunned his passionate relationship with his wife.

The poignant drama serves as both a deeply affecting tribute to a true sporting pioneer, and a testament to the unique bond between father and son.

About Director Jason Connery:
Jason Connery started directing feature films six years ago through his production company Unconditional Entertainment. He directed and produced his first film Pandemic, which was sold worldwide, and led to the Sony release of his second film, The Devil’s Tomb, starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Ron Perlman and Ray Winstone. Connery then went on to direct Syfy’s highest viewed film of the year, 51, starring Bruce Boxleitner, and John Shea. His most recent film, based on a true story, The Philly Kid, was made for Warner Brothers, produced by Joel Silver, and starred Wes Chatham, Neal McDonough, and Michael Jai White.

Connery has also been an actor for over thirty years, appearing in more than 100 films and television shows. While he continues to act, he is also commissioned to travel countrywide utilizing his expertise in teaching on camera seminars. Additionally, Connery has directed many plays throughout his career and founded Short Mondays, a venue for artists to exhibit their short films. Connery is perfectly suited to tell this story, having been educated in, and currently owning a cottage in Scotland. He grew up on a golf course playing with his father, Sean Connery, whose well-documented passion for the game has been a wonderful asset. Sean has lent his knowledge and storytelling abilities to Tommy’s Honour, working with Jason to craft such a dramatic and personal story between a father and son.

Connery has a number of films in the works, including Lion’s Den, but Tommy’s Honour is a huge priority. Jason was excited to direct Tommy’s Honour: “It’s a fantastic story, a father and son love story, with golf being the backdrop. Also we shot in my native country of Scotland, what could be better?!!”

James Bond has nothing on British double agent Dusko Popov. As an operative for the Abwehr, SD, MI5, MI6, and FBI during World War II, Popov seduced countless women including agents on both sides, spoke five languages, and was a crack shot, all while maintaining his cover as a Yugoslav diplomat...

On a cool August evening in 1941, a Serbian playboy created a stir at Casino Estoril in Portugal by throwing down an outrageously large baccarat bet to humiliate his opponent. The Serbian was a British double agent, and the money which he had just stolen from the Germans belonged to the British. From the sideline, watching with intent interest was none other than Ian Fleming...

The Serbian was Dusko Popov. As a youngster, he was expelled from his London prep school. Years later he would be arrested and banished from Germany for making derogatory statements about the Third Reich. When World War II ensued, the playboy became a spy, eventually serving three dangerous masters: the Abwehr, MI5 and MI6, and the FBI.

On August 10, 1941, the Germans sent Popov to the United States to construct a spy network and gather information on Pearl Harbor. The FBI ignored his German questionnaire, but J. Edgar Hoover succeeded in blowing his cover. While MI5 desperately needed Popov to deceive the Abwehr about the D-Day invasion, they assured him that a return to the German Secret Service Headquarters in Lisbon would result in torture and execution. He went anyway...

Into the Lion's Mouth is a globe-trotting account of a man's entanglement with espionage, murder, assassins, and lovers including enemy spies and a Hollywood starlet. It is a story of subterfuge and seduction, patriotism, and cold-blooded courage. It is the story of Dusko Popov the inspiration for James Bond.

>A Preview of Into the Lion's Mouth: The True Story of Dusko Popov

(At the age of 50, Dusko Popov wedded Swedish student Jill Jonsson with whom he was married until his death in 1981. Together they got three sons. For more, check out the 2007 documentary True Bond.)

Official promotion video:

"Larry Loftis has written a sensational book, telling a remarkable true story that few know, even those in the intelligence business. Written in the style of the best spy thrillers, the book is impossible to put down. A must read." – Michael Morell, CIA Director (acting 2011, 2012-13)

"For those wanting to know the real-life inspiration for Ian Fleming's James Bond, here it is. ... A work of non-fiction that's more thriller than biography. It's well-researched, but provides just enough historical background to prep us for Popov's dangerous exploits into espionage, politics and warfare." – USA Today

"Loftis recounts the exploits of the model for Ian Fleming’s James Bond character with great skill. ... Will have readers on the edge of their seats and immersed in this sometimes unbelievable tale." – Library Journal

"Sifting through declassified documents from World War II — as well as hotel bills, letters and long-forgotten memoirs — Loftis painstakingly pinpoints the exact moment Bond’s creator, Ian Fleming, first encountered this real-life 007." – New York Post

"Sometimes truth is not only stranger, but more exciting than fiction. If one is an Ian Fleming aficionado and a World War II history buff, you will find Into the Lion's Mouth a merger of the most exciting and fascinating aspects of both genres. '007's' exploits in the fourteen James Bond books almost pale in comparison to the actual exploits of Dusko Popov." – Admiral Ronald J. Zlatoper, Former Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet

"James Bond is not the amalgamation of several bits and parts from people like Frankenstein’s monster, but based on one individual ... Reads much like a novel, and a thrilling one at that." – The Big Thrill

"Finally puts to rest the mystery of who inspired Fleming's iconic character." – Digital Journal

Publication of The Visitors' Book: In Francis Bacon's Shadow: The Lives of Richard Chopping and Denis Wirth-Miller. With an extraordinary supporting cast including Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon, this is the untold story of two of the most fascinating figures to emerge from the turbulent world of post-war British art.

Denis Wirth-Miller and Richard Chopping (best known for painting the dust jackets to nine of Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels) were a couple at the heart of the mid-twentieth century art world, with the visitors' book of the Essex townhouse they shared from 1945 until 2008 painting them as Zeligs of British society. The names recorded inside make up an astonishing supporting cast - from Francis Bacon to Lucian Freud to Randolph Churchill to John Minton. Successful artists, although not household names themselves, writing Dicky and Denis off as just footnotes in history would be a mistake.

After Denis's death in 2010, Jon Lys Turner, one of two executors of the couple's estate, came into possession of an extraordinary archive of letters, works of art and symbolically loaded ephemera the two had collected since they met in the 1930s. It is no exaggeration to state that this archive represents a missing link in British art history - the wealth of new biographical information disclosed about Francis Bacon, for example, is truly staggering.

The Visitors' Book is both an extraordinary insight into the minutiae of Dicky and Denis's life together and what it meant to be gay in pre-Wolfenden Britain, as well as a pocket social history of the era and a unique perspective into mid-twentieth century art. With reams of previously unseen material, this is a fascinating and unique opportunity to delve into post-war Britain.

About the author:
Jon Lys Turner first met Dicky Chopping in 1981, shortly after beginning his Masters degree at the Royal College of Art. The pair developed a close friendship that would last until Dicky's death in 2008. Jon has worked at the top end of the UK design industry ever since completing his Masters, and has been creative director to some of the world's largest brands.

6 JUNE 2015

Jonathan Ross gains unprecedented access to Britain's famous film studio to reveal the magic behind some of the greatest movies ever made. He encounters legendary stars including Dame Joan Collins and Barbara Windsor, casts the spotlight upon the award-winning teams behind iconic film series such as the Superman and James Bond franchise, and even risks life and limb attempting some daring and dangerous stunts of his own!

19 of the 24 James Bond films to date have used Pinewood Studios as the centre of production. In December 2013, the new Q, Ben Whishaw, opened a brand new stage named after the famed character. And in June 2014, the studio renamed its Theatre 7 to John Barry Theatre in honour of the beloved film composer John Barry.

"Happy 80th Anniversary, Pinewood Studios, from Sweden with love."

In this special documentary, Jonathan Ross takes viewers on a personal tour behind the scenes of Britain’s most iconic studios, bringing the extraordinary Pinewood story to life and celebrating 80 years of British filmmaking.

In 1935 the original British movie maverick, flour magnate J. Arthur Rank, began work on his greatest dream: a British film studio that would be the best in the world. Eighty years on, Pinewood Studios has become one of the most famous in cinema, the beating heart of the UK’s film industry and an artery that runs through the story of British film heritage.

At the heart of the programme is Jonathan Ross’s exploration of this iconic studio. He tells the story behind some of Britain’s greatest film moments and reveals the magic behind the movies in some special sequences: he even gets behind the wheel himself to attempt an audacious car stunt, learns how to choreograph a musical sequence from The Muppets Most Wanted, before staging an ambitious underwater action sequence in the fabled underwater stage complete with burning wreckage and a damsel in distress! Jonathan will also encounter the ‘Pinewood people’, who have worked there past and present and the stars who helped make Pinewood great.

Barbara Windsor will take Jonathan on a golf buggy tour of the back lots to discover what it was like making classic comedy at Pinewood. Together they explore the exact sites where Barbara did some vigorous exercises for Carry On Camping and see how Heatherden Hall was transformed to a British Raj villa for Carry On Up The Khyber.

Inside the grand Hall itself Dame Joan Collins will reveal the secrets of J Arthur Rank’s determination to discover and nurture young stars as she returns to the very room where legendary publicity photographer Cornel Lucas spent weeks creating her iconic brand.

Jonathan will watch a special screening of Sir John Mills in Great Expectations with none other than his daughter Hayley Mills, who followed in her father’s footstep and began her own acting career as a child at Pinewood in films such as Whistle Down The Wind.

But of course no tour of Pinewood would be complete without a 007 moment; Jonathan is joined by the woman who keeps Bond in check, Miss Moneypenny herself Naomie Harris, before sneaking on the set of the latest Bond instalment SPECTRE (2015), to meet the man behind the myth, executive producer Michael G Wilson.

Maverick director Matthew Vaughn will also share his own memories of the ambitious blockbusters he has created at the studio, from Kickass to Kingsman - he understands more than most why Pinewood remains the only studio of choice for epic productions.

With rare behind the scenes archive from the BFI, Pinewood: 80 Years of Movie Magic, is a shameless celebration of British cinema and the incredible survival story of a studio that constantly reinvents itself.

10 AUGUST 2013

Alicia Keys, who sang the theme song (Another Way To Die) to Quantum of Solace with Jack White in 2008, performs at Way Out West in Gothenburg on August 10, 2013.

Not that it is insignificant, but 11 Grammy Awards, arena tours, 35 million albums sold and more hits than you have bad habits is not what impresses with Alicia Keys. The temptation is the same as it was when her debut Songs in A Minor tumbled down out of nowhere in 2001: the ability to balance opposites and bridge contrasts.

Alicia Keys is something as unusual as both critics' favourite and pop phenomenon. For most, musical brilliance and creative integrity rarely go together with the luminous features which stars are born with, but here are both glitter and substance. Her way of conveying confident intelligence with sharp vogue is almost unparalleled, especially in the music - Alicia Keys ties 1960s and 1970s with the 2010s without nostalgic free passes, and she is Joni Mitchell and Beyoncé, Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige; she is Prince and Jack White, she is sore blues, big pop and caressing hip hop: she is the street corner and the wing of the castle, she bares her soul but takes absolutely zero crap. When the fifth drop catcher Girl On Fire was released in 2012, the pop culture bible Rolling Stone confirmed in a sense the unique trek between emotive opposites: ”Girl on fire is both her catchiest and subtlest album yet – and one of the best R&B records of 2012”.

She is Alicia Keys, and she's everything you could ever hope for in a poignant artistry. Liberation, protest and love. Bombastic heartthrob and minimalist popgryn. Way Out West is visited by a genuine and modern icon in August 2013.

Bob Dix, the American actor who portrayed Hamilton in the 1973 Bond film Live and Let Die, has written another book. His new book, To Be A Star: A Guide For Actors and Others, is now available from Amazon.

Bob Dix’s father, actor Richard Dix, was one of America’s best loved movie stars in the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s. His stardom put young Bob in the limelight and opened the door for an acting career. But being the child of a famous person is different and not easy. The public has an impression of who you are. It is a challenge to discover the true you as opposed to the image that exists in the minds of many.

Bob has brought into focus what he believes is the key to inner peace and serenity for people of any age interested in the meaning of “life”: the life portrayed as an Actor in Hollywood, or the life we create for ourself on our own personal stage, the stage of life.

The inner life of a character must be found and connected to the inner life of the Actor. Knowing the true self must be clear so the reflected life is clear. Knowing who you are–not what you do–is very important for you and any character in a story.

Bob’s years of life in Hollywood will give you a guiding light so you may twinkle as a star.

Editor's note:
Bob Dix has appeared in over 80 movies and television shows. In 2009, he wrote an autobiography of two generations of actors, Out of Hollywood.

In August 2009, FSWL founder Anders Frejdh and Marie-France Vienne (webmaster for Sir Roger Moore's official website) interviewed Bob, read more.

Rachel Grant, who played "Peaceful - Fountains of Desire" in Die Another Day (2002) is a wonderful and caring human being. Her latest charitable project is a book with the aim of making a difference for those in need. A suitable title for the project is really "Peaceful Fountains to build Fountain of Love school".

100% of all profit is being donated to Rachel's "Fountain of Love" school building project in Bani, Philippines. Donations can also be made via Paypal to donate(a)

A message from Rachel:
"I want to highlight that ALL funds go directly to the project and ALL charity workers are volunteers. 5,000 USD (3,100 GBP) is needed for the building materials and any more will go towards the upkeep. Any organisation or person interested in taking on the bulk of the cost can have the school/an award/scholarship named at their choice and can also come and visit too!"

How did it happen?
Rachel recently visited the Fountain of Love village and spent time with the 100 children living there. Taken by the humble community, their story, kindness, gratitude and generosity, she pledged to raise funds to build them a much-needed school. Mayor Marcello Navarro has kindly donated a perfect plot for the typhoon-proof school/multi-purpose centre - so the land has been given to the project for free!

Their story:
The Fountain of Love (or "Burubor-ni-Ayat") story is incredible. It was on a beautiful beach in Bani where 600 "informal settlers" lived. Happy in their thriving fishing community, they refused to leave their seaside homes as typhoon Emong was about to make landfall in 2010. One hour before the storm, their beloved Mayor Navarro left his family and went down to the beach in one last attempt to get them to leave.

Finally, one family stepped forward and into the truck, then another and another. Soon everyone was accounted for and on their way. However, as the Mayor and the villagers were out on the road heading to safety, typhoon Emong made landfall. Windows were blown through their vehicles and trees went down blocking their path. Everyone huddled together and lay low as rooftops and debris flew past. The region was devastated by the storm but every person including those from the fishing village miraculously survived.

And their homes on the beach? They had all been washed away. The fishing community survivors lived in donated tents for one year until they were rehoused in new brick homes on a pretty hillside in Bani. They called their village Fountain of Love - because it was built on just that.

October, 1969. Moscow. Paul Dark is a broken man. A terrible mistake twenty-four years ago led to him being recruited into Soviet intelligence, but he has paid a heavy price for it. Now locked up in a cell, distrusted even by those he once served, Dark has nothing for company but the ghosts of his past when he is woken in the early hours and taken to a secret location. There, he discovers that the Soviets believe they are about to face a nuclear attack by the West -- and are planning to strike first as a result. Dark realizes at once that the truth of the matter involves the final days of the Second World War, and the final mission he undertook as a loyal British agent.

Now the fate of the entire world rests on the shoulders of one man: a traitor long past his best, who is soon the subject of a massive man-hunt in one of the most repressive regimes in history. Dark needs to make it to a small island in the Baltic before it's too late -- and the clock is ticking.

He has met a new woman and hope for a turning point in life, but, soon realizes that there is a possible way out of a situation where world peace is threatened by corrupt politicians and war profiteers. A spectacular attack is planned in Stockholm and Hamilton is the only one who can stop it. To say that Freddie Wadling is as fascinated by films as of their music has probably not escaped any of his followers. Therefore, it is not illogical to him on his new album With A License To Kill puts his unique mark on twelve famous theme songs from the James Bond movies. The album is released on November 9, 2011 and is followed by concerts in Stockholm and Gothenburg.
UPDATE 2016: "It is with a heart full of sadness that I sadly must announce that Freddie Wadling, after a rapid course of the disease, died yesterday on 2 June. Freddie was 64 years old.

2016 should have been Freddie's year. He released his fantastic album "After the rain", exhibited his brilliant paintings and gave three highly acclaimed concerts. And we all looked forward to a wider audience discover him through his involvement in "Så mycket bättre". Next year he was scheduled to appear in a musical at Helsingborg Arena.

Freddie had a unique ability to interpret everything from punk to jazz and classical music with rock, ballads and pop, and he made all music his own. I know that Freddie did not want to look back, he always wanted to go on, but now that it's the only thing we can do. Listen to your favorite Freddie song and remember a humble man, full of humor and warmth. Sweden has lost a unique voice but is left with his tunes.

I understand that many people want to express their grief but I ask you to respect Bella, the family and friends and let them mourn in peace. The pain and grief is endless."
Charlott Stenberg (admin for Freddie's page on Facebook)
Freddie Wadling voice has unique qualities. It has drama, experience and desire. Its rugged pride crooner combines elegance with a stripped-down vulnerability. Wadling's varied musical background has seen him sing punk, electronic alternative rock, Captain Beefheart covers and popular earrings. A number of solo albums have been dressed in different musical costumes, but many agree that his voice at its best come into its own with sparse accompaniment. That is also how the idea for this album was born. Freddie and cellist Sebastian Öberg interprets twelve diverse Bond songs and also found, on Wadling own initiative, the theme from the television series Danger Man, "Secret Agent Man".

"I remember thinking: A shame there aren't more we can use," says Wadling. "But then we tested a few more and they grew on me when I was getting myself into them. Also, most texts are not as nonsense-like as one might think when you hear the over loaded, albeit beautiful, original arrangements. It is not black or white, but often involves more complex emotions."

And what voice fits better than Freddie Wadling's to evoke feelings of betrayal, love, suspicion, murderous entity and forbidden passion.

"One falls in love with the songs when you sing them," admits Freddie. "Goran had free hands with A View to A Kill - he is a master of the trumpet," Wadling continues, who contributed with his iPhone! Primarily with keyboard apps - but also made sure it actually rang when they recorded Secret Agent Man!"

Tracks on the album:
1. You Only Live Twice
2. License To Kill
3. The World I Not Enough
4. Golden Eye
5. Secret Agent Man
6. Diamonds Are Forever
7. Another Way To Die
8. Goldfinger
9. From Russia With Love
10. Live And Let Die

About Rosamund Pike:
Rosamund Pike has quickly emerged as a contemporary multifaceted actress having earned international acclaim for both her stage and film roles.

Pike recently starred in Barney's Version, opposite Paul Giamatti and Dustin Hoffman. The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and went on to receive rave reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival, is a love story that spans over 30 years and poignantly captures the life of the politically incorrect, irascible and fearlessly blunt Barney Panofsky (Giamatti) and the women he loved in his life. Pike's work in the film earned her a 2011 London Critics' Circle Award for British Actress of the Year.

Currently, Pike is filming Wrath of the Titans, the sequel to last year's blockbuster Clash of the Titans, opposite Liam Neeson and Sam Worthington. Warner Bros. will release the action-thriller in 2012. She also completed production on David Frankel's comedy The Big Year, in which she stars alongside Owen Wilson, Jack Black and Steve Martin. Fox 2000 has set the release date for October 14, 2011. Earlier this year, Pike filmed the BBC movie Women in Love.

In 2010, Pike starred in the dramatic film Made in Dagenham, opposite Sally Hawkins, Miranda Richardson and Bob Hoskins, based on the 1968 strike at the Ford Dagenham car plant. She was later nominated for a 2011 London Critics' Circle Award for British Actress in a Supporting Role for her role in the film. Pike also starred in Lone Scherfig's Academy Award®-nominated film An Education, opposite Peter Sarsgaard and Carey Mulligan. The film was well received at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009 and continued to garner critical acclaim with Academy Award®, Golden Globe, BAFTA and film critics nominations, and won the Best Foreign Film Award at the Film Independent Spirit Awards.

In 2004, Pike starred in Laurence Dunmore's film version of The Libertine, playing the wife of the Earl of Rochester (Johnny Depp). Pike was recognized for her extraordinary performance, receiving the 2005 British Independent Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. The film also starred John Malkovich and Samantha Morton.

Pike was next seen alongside Keira Knightley, Brenda Blethyn and Dame Judi Dench in the film adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel Pride & Prejudice, directed by Joe Wright. She earned critical acclaim and received a 2006 London Film Critics Award for her portrayal of Jane Bennett.

In 2007, Pike played opposite Ryan Gosling and Anthony Hopkins in New Line Cinema's legal thriller Fracture, directed by Gregory Hoblit. She also starred in Jeremy Podeswa's independent film Fugitive Pieces, which opened the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival. Pike starred in the Disney Film Surrogates, opposite Bruce Willis, and then segued to the independent film Burning Palms, written and directed by Christopher B. Landon. The film depicts five darkly comic and controversial tales of life in Los Angeles. Cast in her first major film as an iconic Bond girl at the age of 21, Pike starred opposite Halle Berry and Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Day.

Pike continues to return to her roots in theatre on the London stage even though she has had great success in cinema throughout her career. She starred in Patrick Hamilton's Victorian thriller Gaslight at the Old Vic Theatre, in The Wyndham's Theatre's production of Madame de Sade opposite Judi Dench and in The Royal Court Theatre's production of Hitchcock Blonde directed by Terry Johnson. With its enormous success, the play was moved to the Lyric Theatre in London's West End. Pike also began the year 2010 by starring as the title role the U.K. touring production of Hedda Gabler, a performance for which she received rave reviews.

Bond girl Caterina Murino portrays a sexy police assistant with eyes for male beauty.

During three Sundays, starting February 20, Swedish viewers of channel SVT will get to learn detective Aurelio Zen (played by the British actor Rufus Sewell) and his assistant Tania Moretti (played by the talented and beautiful Italian actress Caterina Murino).

Zen is a BBC drama series centred around Rome detective Aurelio Zen, who finds it tough being the only honest cop in town. Plotting politicians, a stressed-out boss and vengeful gangsters don't make it easy.

Caterina Murino says:

“I have to say that I was, and still am, a huge fan of Rufus Sewell and from the first time I met him, he was so nice, so humble and I felt there was some chemistry between him and me. I felt immediately why Tania has a relationship with him. It was so nice to feel it for the first time at the casting.”

“The relationship between Rufus and I on set was always about teasing each other. It was like little kids at school - sometimes the director would have to say ‘stop, both of you! One in the corner and one in the other corner.’ There’s a lot of humour between us. We were always teasing each other and I think that was the best way to build up the relationship, especially with the relationship on screen.”

"It's a perfect mixture of all the things that I would love to see in the cinema – corruption, love, elegance and humour. Everything mixed in perfect doses."

Anders Frejdh, editor of From Sweden With Love, comments:

"Caterina is one of the most beautiful women I have ever met. In this new BBC series, she is as astonishing as in Casino Royale (2006) and makes a wonderful performance as Tania."

Based on Stanley Morgan's nineteen phenomenal books (which have sold over 10 MILLION copies Worldwide - and counting, 'Make Way For Tobin' is a homage to Britain's golden comedy era, the 1960's.

Remembering such greats as Carry On and St. Trinan's, Russ Tobin will easily become the new favourite comedy icon that will be watched again and again across the globe. Combining hilarious comedy and timeless musical numbers, the film will appeal to both audiences young and old.

Ever on the look-out for that rung that will help him up the ladder to fame and fortune, Tobin believes his big break has finally arrived, when through the wiles of Tobin-smitten Mimsie Hardwater at his local Job Centre, he gets the job of maintenance man at the fabulous apartment block Wisteria Court, residence of the very rich and famous. Here at last, within his reach, is the lifestyle for which he yearns, the job actually permitting him to hobnob with the residents.

Alas, Tobin quickly discovers the chasm that inevitably separates our fantastic dreams from harsh reality. Wisteria Court, it transpires, is a seething seedbed of eccentric silliness, an asylum of anarchic asininity. One day the world may well MAKE WAY FOR TOBIN...but it sure as heck won't be today!

With a fan base in the millions, and with a track record of sales in North America, Mainland Europe, Australia and South Africa, bringing Russ Tobin to the screen is an obvious worldwide hit. Combine that with proposed music from The Beatles, Animals, Gene Pitney & more the potential of profit is endless from this hysterical love story. Also, with an incredible NINETEEN books published on Tobin's antics, the scope for sequels are there with investors getting first option on the follow ups.

5 MAY 2009

Publication of Free Agent, written by our friend Jeremy Duns.

"In July 1945 MI6 agent Paul Dark took part in a top secret mission to hunt down and execute Nazi war criminals. He will discover that everything he understood about that mission, about its consequences, and about the woman he once loved, has been built on false foundations.

Now it's 1969 and a KGB colonel called Slavin has walked into the High Commission inLagos, Nigeria, and announced that he wants to defect. His credentials as a defector are good - he has highly suggestive information which indicates that there is yet another double agent within MI6, which would be a devastating blow for a Service still coming to terms with its betrayal by Kim Philby and the rest of the Cambridge Five. Paul Dark has been largely above suspicion during MI6's years of self-recrimination. But this time he can see his number coming up.

For some it would be fight or flight time. But when you discover that everything you've taken for granted and trusted for twenty four years turns out to be untrue, and when your arrest may only be moments away, then perhaps the only option is both fight and flight.

Free Agent is a twisting, intense thriller set between London and Nigeria during the height of the Cold War. It's a novel of innumerable cliffhangers, all set within a constantly evolving moral universe, and the surprises keep coming until the very last page."

A book written by the talented Sébastien Foucan who founded freerunning. Foucan played Mollaka in the hugely successful James Bond film Casino Royale (2006) performing his skills to the fullest.

Freerunning is the cultural phenomenon that exploded into the public's consciousness with Mike Christie's Channel 4 documentaries Jump London and Jump Britain. In Freerunning: Find Your Way, Sébastien Foucan, the founder of the art, shares his philosophies and shows that the values behind freerunning can be applied to your daily life. With electrifying photography of Sébastien in action, this book is packed with inspirational ideas to help you find your true path and get the most out of your life.

Book details:
Hardcover: 128 pages
Publisher: Michael O'Mara Books
Language: English
Cover price: £9.95
ISBN-10: 1843173301
ISBN-13: 978-1843173304
Dimensions: 20 x 13.4 x 1.4 cm

About the author:
Foucan developed the discipline Parkour (also known as Free Running) with his friend David Belle, to combat negative energy. He has created and given names to many of the trademark Parkour moves, now used throughout the movement, which is becoming increasingly well known and respected as an extreme sport worldwide. However, for Foucan, Parkour is not a sport; it is primarily an art form.

Foucan became known to a wide audience when the documentaries “Jump London” and “Jump Britain” began to be aired around the world, and he is now regarded as the ambassador for the Free Running movement. In late 2006, Discovery Channel broadcasted the French segment of their international series “HD Atlas,” which is entirely devoted to Parkour, with commentary by Foucan.

He has appeared in numerous television commercials including Nike and Toyota, as well as in Madonna’s video for her hit single “Confessions on the Dancefloor.” He was then invited to accompany her on her 2006 international stage tour “Confessions.”

Foucan’s philosophy is “No violence, no competition, no groups, no chiefs.”

23 APRIL 2007

The single The Living Tree sung by Shirley Bassey is now available on Single, Enhanced, EP from the Lock Stock and Barrel label.

She’s gold, gowns and glamour. Champagne, charisma and chic. Savoir faire, style and showbiz. She’s besequinned, beloved, Bassey.

The buzzwords have been tripping off our tongues for decades, but there can never be enough of them to sum up an artist who defines the word superstar. In a world where true legends of entertainment are an endangered phenomenon, it’s time once again to celebrate the unique force of nature that is Dame Shirley Bassey.

One of Great Britain’s greatest-ever entertainers has been having a love affair with her public for more than 50 years. She’s sung for Presidents, Queens and secret agents, hung out with a King, packed concert halls across the known world and sold an estimated 135 million records in the process. Every step of the way, she has radiated magnetic elegance, and now the moment has come for Dame Shirley to bedazzle yet another new generation.

On November 9, Geffen Records is proud to unveil ‘The Performance,’ the new studio recording which the artist humbly considers to be the greatest album of her career. Produced, aptly, by David Arnold, a musician as steeped in ‘007’ tradition as she is, it features songs written especially for Bassey by an extraordinary A-list of contemporary composers and performers.

Gary Barlow, the Pet Shop Boys, Rufus Wainwright, KT Tunstall and Manic Street Preachers are among those truly honoured to have their songs interpreted by Dame Shirley, alongside a cherished pairing from her past, John Barry & Don Black. To borrow the title of the Tennant/Lowe song that brings the record to a tumultuous and emotional conclusion, it is the performance of her life.

At 72, Dame Shirley Bassey is about to extend her span as a chart artist to an astonishing 52 years, and she can hardly contain her excitement. She chose material for ‘The Performance’ with the rigourousness that has fuelled her career, and then set about the recording sessions with Arnold and a crack team of musicians, in residence at Grouse Lodge Studios in Westmeath, Ireland, which counts no less a fellow legend than Michael Jackson among its former visitors.

“We stayed there, ate there, slept there and recorded there, and it was great fun,” says Dame Shirley, “in spite of the rain.” Soon, word was getting out that she was loving the songs, and when this artist loves a song, it becomes forever Basseyfied. During the process, she began to do what she has always done: not just to sing a song, but to live inside it. She pronounces herself “ecstatic” with the results.

The stirring melodies and inspiring arrangements of these bespoke compositions are the perfect backdrop for the artist to extract every last drop of emotion from the lyrics of those writers and other distinguished talents such as Richard Hawley, Tom Baxter, David McAlmont and Nick Hodgson of Kaiser Chiefs.

The first track Dame Shirley heard that moved her to embark on a new album project was Wainwright’s characteristically playful ‘Apartment.’ The “fairytale song,” as she describes it, got her in the mood to welcome fresh material, commit to coming out of her “semi-retirement” again and give her public a truly memorable record.

The master stroke was to team Bassey with David Arnold, custodian of the James Bond music marque to which the Dame has contributed three times, more than any other artist. “David’s very gentle, he lets you find your own way,” says Bassey of her new producer. “He’s very cool, he put me completely at ease.”

A self-confessed fan of both the look and sound of the classic, Connery-era ‘Goldfinger’ and ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ movies for which she sang the indelible themes, he called the Pet Shop Boys, Hodgson and others to invite material. When Dame Shirley heard Tennant & Lowe’s ‘The Performance Of My Life,’ the sentiment was so close to home that it made her cry.

Arnold co-wrote two songs for ‘The Performance’ himself, one with David McAlmont and the other with La Bassey’s old friend Don Black. He’s known her since around the time she exploded onto the UK chart scene of the late 1950s, when she swiftly up half a dozen top ten hits amid many other great recordings.

Close to 40 years after Black and another all-time great English composer, John Barry, wrote ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ for her, back they came with a new co-write, ‘Our Time Is Now.’ It already feels like a new Bassey classic, but then so many of these songs do.

Barlow himself had come to Arnold’s studio to sit at the piano and play her ‘This Time.’ Talk about An Audience With Dame Shirley. They later joked about which of them was more nervous, but neither need have worried: it’s a brilliant piece of contemporary writing that fits the Bassey treatment so perfectly, you’d think they’d known each other all their lives.

The story of Dame Shirley Bassey is itself the stuff of fairytales, and any attempt to condense it into these dimensions would be insulting. Suffice it to ask whether you can think of any other current recording artists who hung out backstage with Elvis Presley, or took part in one of the greatest comedy sketches of all time with Morecambe & Wise, or played every stage worth its salt from London to Las Vegas, or every gala TV event from the Royal Variety Performance to two “Audience With” specials and the “This Is Your Life” treatment, or sung for the presidential inauguration of John F. Kennedy.

When ‘The Performance’ makes its arrival as a new chapter in an incredible fable, it will only enhance some already spectacular statistics, two years after ‘The Living Tree’ gave her the 28th UK Top 40 single of her career, a 50-year span of hits and made her the first-ever solo female septuagenarian to hit the charts.

Having won standing ovations for 50 years – the proper, spontaneous, never-ending kind, not the enforced adulation of later and lesser stars – Dame Shirley Bassey is ready for another close-up. As ever, she lives by her public.

“I live for the moment. If it’s a big success, I go with it,” she says. “I was explaining the album to my daughter over the phone and she said ‘I’m getting so emotional, the fact that all these writers have written for you and you’re going to sing their songs. But I want to wait for the audience reaction.” It’s coming soon, and the applause will be endless, because Bassey Is Forever.

Publication of Emily King's book Sex and Typography: Robert Brownjohn. Robert Brownjohn (1925-1970) created the titles for From Russia with Love (1963) and Goldfinger (1964) (1964).

The design profession doesn't produce many larger-than-life figures. Robert Brownjohn - BJ, to just about everyone who knew him, and everyone did - was one. His gifts were immense, as were his appetites. Enfant terrible and visionary, he was both. Mick and the Stones wanted to hang with him. Of course it couldn't last. Robert Brownjohn was simply too big for this world. He died in 1970 at the age of 45, a victim of his own excesses. Today, he is best remembered for his sexy James Bond credit sequences. But Brownjohn's legacy is far more significant, and his story has all the drama and pathos of a Hollywood blockbuster. Now, for the first time, this extraordinary life and career is remembered in print, with all its richness and complexity.

Robert Brownjohn: Sex and Typography tracks the story of this legend from his early years as the prized student of Laszlo Moholy-Nagy to his days as a visionary star in the New York design world of the sixties and his later years as an icon in the film and advertising world of swinging London. The book illustrates the dynamic work Brownjohn produced on his own and as a cofounder of the firms Brownjohn, Chermayeff & Geismar Associates in New York and Cammell, Hudson and Brownjohn in London, including campaigns for such giants as Pirelli, IBM, and Midland Bank. Robert Brownjohn: Sex and Typography is both an inspirational monograph of creative genius and a window into the life of a Falstaffian figure who just happened to be one of the formative designers of the twentieth century.

About the author:
Emily King is a writer and curator specializing in graphic design. She is the design editor of Frieze magazine and was the coauthor of Restart: New Systems in Graphic Design (2001) and editor of Designed (2003) by Peter Saville. In 2002 she curated two graphic design exhibitions: Design Now: Graphics for the Design Museum in London and The Book Corner for the British Council.

In 1967, Pearson wrote the best-selling authorized biography of Ian Fleming. At the time, like most of the many millions of James Bond fans around the world he assumed that Bond was nothing more than a figment of Fleming’s highly charged imagination. Then he began to have his doubts – doubts which soon were reaching such a pitch that the British secret service tried to warn him off the scent. Despite this, he finally became convinced that James Bond was not only real but was actually alive.

Thanks to a change of policy within the secret service (for reasons which Pearson carefully explains), he was invited to embark upon a companion volume to his life of Fleming. This was a book which must surely be one of the most extraordinary biographies of our times – the authorized life of a myth, the official biography of James Bond.
