6 OCTOBER 2017
A CELEBRATION OF BOND GIRL BRITT EKLAND

75th birthday of Britt Ekland, Swedish actress who co-starred in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) opposite Sir Roger Moore. In June 2008, FSWL made an interview with Britt about her work on TMWTGG for Sir Roger's official website.

With this page, FSWL would like to celebrate one of Sweden's finest.

About Britt Ekland:
Britt Ekland was born in 1942 as Britt-Marie Eklund in Stockholm where she attended a drama school (Calle Flygares teaterskola) before joining a travelling theatre group.

Following small parts in a few Swedish TV shows and films, Britt was cast in more substantial roles in Italian cinema, and soon became a star in the country.

When Peter Sellers met Britt in a hotel, he fell head over heels in love and they soon married. Due to the success that Sellers was having in films and her natural beauty, Britt became internationally famous. She appeared in two films with her husband After the Fox (1966), written by Neil Simon and The Bobo (1967). The following year she starred, with Jason Robards and Norman Wisdom in The Night They Raided Minsky's (1968).

Britt continued to work in film and TV, making three or four films a year. Some of the most memorable being Get Carter (1971) and the cult classic, The Wicker Man (1973), which was released as a 40th Anniversary special edition DVD and Blu-ray on 13th October 2013.

However, the high point in her career would be her role as Bond girl Mary Goodnight in The Man with the Golden Gun 1974.

Following Bond, Britt juggled a career on stage, tv and film; the latter including King Soloman's Treasure (1979), The Monster Club (1981) and Scandal (1989). It is however, perhaps for her part as Mary Goodnight that she remains most popular.

In 2007, Britt appeared on Swedish TV in SVT's portrait series, Stjärnorna på slottet. (Maud Adams appeared in the same series a year before.)

Over the years, Britt has worked on several books: her autobiography True Britt (1980) which was published in America in 1982, the fitness and health book Sensual Beauty (1984), and the novel Det ljuva livet (1993) which she co-wrote with her manager, Johan Pråmell.

In 2013, Britt Ekland appeared in Season 6 of Swedish Hollywood Wives on TV3 alongside Maria Montazami, Gunilla Persson and Siv Cotton.

Editor's note:
The Swedish Bond girls, Britt and Maud, also acted together in another film apart from TMWTGG, The Hostage Tower, in 1980.

20 AUGUST 2015
BRITT EKLAND VISIT OSLO FOR JAMES BOND EVENT

Norwegian James Bond fan Morten Steingrimsen follow FSWL's idea of organising a non-profit 007 event for UNICEF when oh-oh-seven Bond girls, headed by Swedish actress Britt Ekland and FSWL supporters Martine Beswicke & Carole Ashby (who also attended our UNICEF event in Stockholm last year), fly to Oslo to help raise money for the charity organisation. The ticket price is 3,500 NOK (+100 NOK in booking fee).

On August 20, seven of the James Bond girls will be in Oslo for an event titled BOND GIRLS ARE FOREVER (the same title as the book published in 2003). The Bond Girls will bring classic charm and glamour to a 007-themed dinner and charity auction for UNICEF in the Kino Victoria, paired with an exclusive screening of the newly remastered 4K version of Thunderball (1965), 50 years the original release in 1965.

Martine Beswick and Luciana Paluzzi, who both starred in the 1965 Bond film, will be amongst the fabulous seven Bond girls. They will be joined by actresses Britt Ekland from The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), Carole Ashby from Octopussy (1983) (1983) and A View to a Kill (1985), Maryam d’Abo from The Living Daylights (1987), Carey Lowell from Licence to Kill (1989) and Tonia Sotiropoulou from Skyfall (2012) (2012).

Steingrimsen promises that the Norwegian capital will notice that Bond’s ladies are in town. Their glamour, style and charm have captivated audiences decade after decade since the film franchise began in 1962. All based on the James Bond books of Ian Fleming.

“James Bond has class, and the event will reflect his style. Bentley Motors, Fleming’s choice of car brand for Bond in his novels, will display a selection of its contemporary models, representing the pinnacle of British motoring with the looks and power that you would expect in a 007 adventure. Breitling will display the original Navitimer wrist chronograph that Sean Connery wore in Thunderball. For the event, the Swiss watch manufacturer has also donated a Navitimer for a charity auction during the event”, says Steingrimsen.

Sir Roger Moore, who played British agent James Bond in no less than seven films, has long been an ambassador for UNICEF. The former 007 is a passionate advocate for children’s rights, and the proceeds of the auction will therefore go to UNICEF which is the world’s largest humanitarian organisation for children.

“In the books and films, one can get the impression that James Bond has nine lives. The rest of us only have one. UNICEF is grateful for this gift that will contribute to save lives and give all children a fair chance in life”, says Bernt G. Apeland, Executive Director of UNICEF Norway.

The evening will be complemented with gastronomic highlights worthy of the British secret agent, prepared by Dag Tjersland, one of Oslo’s top chefs. Expert bartenders from the Verité Cocktail Lounge will mix drinks of the 007 universe. Shaken, not stirred, naturally!

25 NOVEMBER 2014
BRITT EKLAND ON MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN

For the 40th anniversary in December of The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), FSWL founder Anders Frejdh (who celebrate his 40th birthday three weeks ahead of the anniversary) caught up with the famed Swedish Bond girl Britt Ekland to talk about her work on the film directed by Guy Hamilton.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In 2008, AF did another interview with Britt Eklandpublished simultaneously on FSWL and Sir Roger Moore's website, read the previous interview.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[FSWL] Can you tell us how you landed the role in The Man with the Golden Gun? How had your past roles prepared you for the film?
[Britt Ekland] My Father used to read Ian Fleming's books when I was a child so I was familiar with the name. I was already an established actress when I read that they were doing a new James Bond film and having seen Ursula Andress in Dr. No (1962) I wanted to be a Bond Girl and I bought the book and made an appointment to see Cubby (Albert R. Broccoli), the producer and told him I wanted to play secretary "Mary Goodnight", he basically said that the script wasn't finished and I left for the States to do another movie.

[FSWL] From your first meeting with Cubby Broccoli, how did working for him go? Did you spend much time with producer Harry Saltzman?
[Britt Ekland] I loved Cubby, he was the most kind and generous producer I had ever met and he was very much a family man so of course his wife Dana and daughter (Barbara) were there on location as was my two children, Victoria and Nicholai. (Although I met Harry he was not really an "on set" producer like Cubby.)

[FSWL] The film was shot primarily at Pinewood and Thailand?
[Britt Ekland] The film started shooting on location in Bangkok, then moved to Phuket and Hong Kong finishing up in England at Pinewood Studios.

[FSWL] Can you remember what your first thoughts where upon arriving in Thailand? Is it true upon arriving the cast and crew stayed in a brothel?
[Britt Ekland] As a Swede and a total sun bunny, I loved the idea of going to Thailand but Bangkok was very polluted and hot and humid and it was very difficult to stay dry and fresh looking. It is not true that we stayed in a brothel, we stayed at the first class hotel, The Oriental, in Bangkok but when we went to Phuket to film exteriors for "Scaramanga's" compound we stayed in a brothel with generators to have electricity as Phuket was just a small village with a completely empty beach and no hotels!

[FSWL] Can you tell us about filming in Hong Kong?
[Britt Ekland] I loved Hong Kong but again it was very polluted.

[FSWL] There are many funny stories about actor Herve Villechaize, can you remember any?
[Britt Ekland] No not really, he was a very private person when not filming but we were told that girls were crazy about him. He was always a very lovely person to be with on set and of course his French accent was very funny.

[FSWL] How was it working with Roger Moore and Christopher Lee? Can you remember any jokes Roger got you with?
[Britt Ekland] Christopher Lee was also a very private and professional person, we never saw him outside filming but I did become friends with his Danish wife.

Roger Moore was great fun to work with and not at all Star Like and distant like some famous actors I have worked with. He was always in a good mood and a very energetic and positive actor.

[FSWL] Did you know Maud Adams before shooting the film? Can you tell us a little about working with Maud on the film?
[Britt Ekland] No, I didn't know Maud, we flew to Bangkok together and became very good friends and still are. I think the only scene I had with Maud was when I hid in the wardrobe but I don't think we ever had a dialogue. We spent a lot of time together when we weren't working.

[FSWL] Which is your fondest memory from the production?
[Britt Ekland] I think the fact that I went to Cubby Broccoli and asked to be in the film and I then became a Bond Girl, is something I am very proud of.

[FSWL] Where there any scenes that you filmed but for some reason was cut in the final version?
[Britt Ekland] No not to my knowledge.

[FSWL] What do you think of Daniel Craig as James Bond?
[Britt Ekland] I think Daniel Craig is a very modern Bond which young people like and that is important.

[FSWL] Describe the experience of being part of the James Bond legacy.
[Britt Ekland] As I have said many times, it is like being in a very exclusive club with membership all over the world.

MANY THANKS TO BRITT EKLAND FOR TAKING TIME FOR THIS INTERVIEW.

PIER LUIGI 1964 PHOTO OF BRITT EKLAND FOR SALE

Britt Ekland ("Bond girl" Mary Goodnight in the 1974 James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun) has signed a very rare photo (taken by Pier Luigi 1964 in Peter Sellers Hollywood villa) for sale at a charity auction in Stockholm for the benefit of Barndiabetesfonden. FSWL've got all the details and can offer a preview.

For the third year in a row, Barndiabetesfonden (Child Diabetes Fund) in Sweden, together with Stockholms Auktionsverk and Lilly Diabetes organizes a charity auction at Berns Salonger in Stockholm during World Diabetes Day on November 14 to raise money for juvenile diabetes research.

Several other unique photos will be auctioneered during this auction.

Bidding will only take place at the evening of the 14th of November, 2013. The auction can only be attended by invitation but the public can bid on telephone. Contact Stockholms Auktionsverk for more about the bidding process.

All proceeds during the evening will go to research childhood diabetes. The 2011 auction brought in a total of 653 000 SEK and last year's auction (including Izabella Scorupco's GoldenEye bikini) raised more than 1 Million SEK, hopefully that will be surpassed this year.

In Sweden, about 8000 children and adolescents live with diabetes, a life-long disorder that involves daily treatments and many hospital visits. Today, diabetes is an incurable, life-threatening disease, and the only thing that can change this is continuing research in this area. Sweden is the second nation in the world with the highest rate of diabetes amongst children. Children suffer almost exclusively of type-1 diabetes, which means that the cells producing insulin die. Three times more children are diagnosed with diabetes than all forms of cancer combined.

Q&A WITH BRITT EKLAND ABOUT THE WICKER MAN

Swedish actress Britt Ekland will make a special appearance at a 40th anniversary screening of The Wicker Man (1973) at the Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles on November 1, 2013. Britt will make an introduction to the 7:30pm screening followed by a Q&A after the film ends.

After receiving an anonymous letter about a missing 12-year-old girl, devout Christian and dedicated cop Edward Woodward (1930–2009), travels by seaplane to a remote Scottish island to investigate. But the islanders welcome neither his badge nor religious devotion, for the laird of the isle (horror film legend Christopher Lee) and his devoted followers worship only the pagan gods of old—and those gods demand a sacrifice. Woodward fears for the missing girl's life and follows every possible lead to find her - despite the islanders' interfering machinations - before she becomes a human sacrificial lamb.

Hammer vampiress Ingrid Pitt (1937-2010) and Swedish blonde bombshell Britt Ekland also star in this quintessential psychological thriller, celebrating its 40th Anniversary with a new digital restoration. Director Robin Hardy authorized this "final cut," which for the first time since the 1970s will include scenes that were previously missing and restore scenes in the correct order, in a new DCP 2K restoration from 35mm materials.

30 MARCH 2012
BRITT EKLAND ATTENDS FILM FESTIVAL IN OMAN

Over 90 countries will be participating in the 7th Muscat International Film Festival (MIFF) in Oman with James Bond related guests in attendance.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first James Bond film, Dr. No (1962), and will undoubtedly see wild debate as to who has been the best 007 over the years. The current holder of the licence to kill, Daniel Craig, is likely to attract a significant portion of the votes, having given Bond a tough, small-swimming trunks, fist-fights-over-ludicrous-gadgets twist, while the old favourites Sean Connery and Roger Moore will probably be shaking and stirring things up in second place.

Former James Bond star Sir Roger Moore will be in Oman as part of the 7th Muscat International Film Festival.

March 30 is the Special James Bond Day at the MIFF and The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) will be screened for the public in the presence of the super legend. Sir Roger will also be honoured at the MIFF at the closing ceremony on March 31.

The second actor to portray Ian Fleming's super-spy on the big screen, George Lazenby, will also be jetting into Oman for the festival and his film, On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), will be screened during the day.

Adding to the Bond appreciation comes John Glen, who has directed more 007s than any other filmmaker, and Britt Ekland, Roger Moore's famously ditzy Bond girl in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974).

The festival might not make as much noise as its regional counterparts in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha, but this year boasts a line-up just as impressive. Apart from the Bond guests, other names on the guest list include Susan Sarandon, Forest Whitaker and Omar Sharif.

Editor's note:
The Bond festivities takes place in the Oman Auditorium located at AL Bustan Palace Hotel.

BRITT EKLAND LAUNCH OFFICIAL WEBSITE

The world-famous actress Britt Ekland launched her first official website today.

A MESSAGE FROM BRITT EKLAND:

"Since I first came to England as a contract player for 20th Century Fox in January 1964, and with my marriage to Peter Sellers one month later, my life has been anything but private.

There is probably little you don't already know about me, but this is the first time you'll have seen it all in one place.

This is a presentation of my life in pictures, beginning way back in Sweden as a dumpy and awkward teenager, leading to international fame, stardom and a future I never could have imagined." - Britt, December, 2010

Britt has also started to use Twitter and has her own official Facebook page. We would like to thank Britt and wish her good luck in the cyberspace!

NOV-DEC 2010
BRITT EKLAND IN "I'M A CELEBRITY, GET ME OUT OF HERE!"

Britt Ekland appears in UK television hit show "I'm A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here!" this year!

It’s not often a Bond Girl graces the hallowed I’m A Celebrity… turf – and it comes as no surprise that Britt likes the finer things in life. So, how’s she going to cope with life in the jungle, then?

“I like extreme comfort,” says the well-preened star of The Man With The Golden Gun. “I have never taken the children camping before…and so I really am dreading not sleeping in my fluffy gorgeous plump four poster bed. I will miss that a lot.”

That said, to prepare for life in Oz Britt has cut out coffee, alcohol, sugar, dairy and wheat in the month leading up to the show.

And she’s also not scared of getting her hands dirty. “I think people will be surprised to see me in a way I have not been seen before,” she says. “They will see me as very unglamorous. Stripping down is not a problem for me. Sleep deprivation is also fine. I am an actress. I am used to deprivation.” Well, we can’t say fairer than that.

15 MAY - 10 JUNE 2010
AN AUDIENCE WITH BRITT EKLAND

The legendary beauty tells about her life - her childhood in Sweden, her big breaks, her doomed marriage to the comic superstar actor Peter Sellers, her subsequent relationships with Rod Stewart, George Hamilton and Lou Adler.

Icon, movie star, Britt Ekland is as famous for her love life as her films ... but who is she really?

In a candid and disarming show, the legendary beauty tells about her life – her childhood in Sweden, her big break, her doomed marriage to Peter Sellers, her subsequent relationships with Lou Adler and Rod Stewart, and her second marriage to Slim Jim Phantom of the Stray Cats.

But there's so much more to Britt than that. She is also the devoted mother of three children, and, having watched her beloved mother's tragic disintegration, the patron of the Alzheimer's Society. Still fabulous, she is not afraid of getting older, and her attitude to the process of ageing should be an inspiration to all women of a certain age.

The first half of the show will last approximately 50 minutes, after a short interval Britt will return for part two which will include the opportunity for questions from the audience.

22-23 NOVEMBER 2008
COLLECTOR SHOW WITH SWEDISH BOND GIRLS

Several James Bond related actors attends famed Memorabilia Show in November 2008!

With the release of the latest instalment in the Bond franchise - QUANTUM OF SOLACE - the NEC Memorabilia Show is celebrating this with appearances by some of the most memorable Bond girls from the films.

Meet these lovely actresses at this show:

HONOR BLACKMAN
Is perhaps best known for her role as Pussy Galore in the classic James Bond movie Goldfinger (1964), she went toe-to-toe with Sean Connery's womanizing 007 and created major sparks on screen.
Before Pussy she played Cathy Gale in the highly popular "The Avengers" (1961) co-starring Patrick Macnee as John Steed. Her incredulous beauty, self-confidence and athletic derring-do not only made her a catch for the men, but helped to inspire the 60s feminist movement.

MAUD ADAMS
Stunning Swedish born ex-model broke into film in 1970, she quickly appeared in several high profile films including playing the ex-wife of James Caan in the futuristic Rollerball (1975) and the ill-fated lover of super assassin "Scaramanga" played by Christopher Lee in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974). Maud Adams also appeared in Octopussy (1983) and as an extra in A View to a Kill (1985).

SHIRLEY EATON
Shirley broke out internationally (and quite unexpectedly) when she played Jill Masterson, one of the scantily-clad beauties linked to Gert Fröbe in the 007 film Goldfinger (1964).
Shirley's memorable 24 karat gold death scene (she was painted head to toe in gold paint and "died" of skin suffocation) became the eye-catching draw for the movie. She was splattered everywhere - on movie posters, in press junkets and in publicity campaigns.
It is Eaton's gilded visuals that became THE iconic image of the whole 007 phenomena.

BRITT EKLAND
When Peter Sellers met her in a hotel, he fell hard for her and they soon married! The combination of Sellers' stardom and her stunning beauty contributed to her fame.
She played a young girl who invented the striptease in The Night They Raided Minsky's (1968). She appeared in some great productions, including Get Carter (1971) & cult classic The Wicker Man (1973). Her career high point is probably as Bond babe Mary Goodnight in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974).

MADELINE SMITH
Shapely, dark haired British actress who appeared in a number of sensual film and TV roles that showcased her beauty.
She is probably best recognizable as Miss Caruso, the beautiful young Italian agent sleeping with James Bond in the opening of Live and Let Die (1973) whose blue dress zipper meets its match in Bond's magnetic watch. Prior to this, she had worked with Roger Moore in an early TV appearance and he recommended her for the role.

TANIA MALLET
In 1963 Tania was considered for the role of the lead Bond girl in From Russia with Love (1963) but she didn't get it, however, the following year she was cast in the next Bond film, Goldfinger (1964), playing the ill-fated Tilly Masterson. She agreed to appear in Goldfinger as an experiment.
She was earning £2,000 a week as a model, and after much bargaining managed to secure only £150 a week as her fee for the film, she claimed that she could not afford to continue working as an actress, because she was earning more as a model.

7 DEC 2007
BRITT EKLAND RELATED BOOK

BRITT EKLAND

Born (year): 1942
Professional: Actress, Author and TV hostess
Language(s): English and Swedish
Website: None (Facebook - Instagram - Twitter)

About Britt Ekland:
Britt Ekland was born as Britt-Marie Eklund in Stockholm, Sweden and there attended a drama school (Calle Flygares teaterskola) before joining a travelling theatre group.

Some of the most memorable being Get Carter (1971) and the cult classic, The Wicker Man (1973).

However, the high point in her career would be her role as Bond babe Mary Goodnight in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974).

Following Bond, Britt juggled a career on stage, tv and film; the latter including King Soloman's Treasure (1979), The Monster Club (1981) and Scandal (1989).

In 2007, Britt appeared on Swedish TV in SVT's portrait series, Stjärnorna på slottet. (Maud Adams appeared in the same series a year before.)

Over the years, Britt has worked on several books: her autobiography True Britt (1980) which was published in America in 1982, the fitness and health book Sensual Beauty (1984), and the novel Det ljuva livet (1993) which she co-wrote with Johan Pråmell.

In 2013, Ekland appeared in Season 6 of "Swedish Hollywood Wives" on TV3 and in 2014 she stars in "Eklands", also on TV3.
