French director Yann Demange revealed in a recent interview with Swedish film news site Moviezine that he had some conversations about directing Bond 25 but that the timing was wrong.
When asked what he would say about directing a James Bond film and if there was any truth in last year's news that he was considered for the job,
Yann Demange said:
“Well, I'm not going to direct the next one [Bond 25]. Cary Joji Fukunaga will do that. I had some conversations with them but the timing was wrong. I was very honoured about being asked, but everything was inflated as it always gets. The story got excessively large.”
And continued:
“Would I want to have a go? Yes, I would be open to discuss it, absolutely. I love the franchise. In the time we live in now, the next Bond film can be something very interesting. Where can it go in the political climate? How does today's Bond look? But right now, there's nothing I think about. There was a mild truth in it, but it was magnified. When everyone talked about me doing James Bond, I was outside Chicago and filmed the whole night. I knew nothing about what people were talking about. After a couple of weeks, I was told about everything that had passed. Everyone knew, except me, haha!”
