BIRTHDAY FOR 'BOND GIRL' GLORIA HENDRY
FSWL celebrates Gloria Hendry on her birthday. Gloria played San Monique (fictional island) stationed CIA agent Rosie Carver in Live and Let Die (1973).

With this page, we would like to send our personal wishes to Ms. Hendry on this special day.

"Dear Gloria, happy birthday and much love from Sweden!"

About Gloria Hendry:
Gloria Hendry was born in Florida and raised in Newark, New Jersey, Gloria's first job was as an assistant to the legal secretary in the New York office of the NAACP. She also became a model around this time and worked at the Playboy Club as a "Bunny." This exposure led to her being cast in her first movie, For Love of Ivy (1968).

In the 1970s, she became a popular star of black actioners such as Black Caesar (1973) and Black Belt Jones (1974).

Between these two assignments, she was cast by Guy Hamilton as Rosie Carver in Live and Let Die, and became the first African American Bond girl. Alas, she was killed for betraying James Bond (Roger Moore) to Dr Kanaga (Yaphet Kotto).

Gloria continued to work extensively in both tv and film post-Bond.

She completed her first CD and also produced The Paul Robeson Story.

In June 2008, Gloria Hendry published her autobiography Gloria. Maud Adams comments:

"Gloria’s variety of talents has always amazed me. Her autobiography reveals the exciting and varied experiences she has had and the many lives she has touched. We wee both “Bond Girls’ and bonded on our first meeting. Gloria remains a valued friend to this day!"

In 2009 she was interviewed in "Reflections on Blaxploitation: Actors and Directors Speak".

Undoubtedly, she remains most fondly remembered as Rosie Carver in Live and Let Die, a role she is both proud and fond of.
