James Bond (Sean Connery) captured the attention of millions of golfers around the world when he used a Penfold Hearts ball in 1964's Goldfinger, claiming “Here’s my Penfold Hearts” in one of golf’s most iconic movie scenes. Nearly 60 years later, Penfold Golf today is announcing an official partnership with the 007 franchise.
The Penfold x 007 collection includes balls, tees, towels and ball markers and will be launched in November 2021. The special-edition 007 Penfold Hearts golf ball features the 007 logo in place of the traditional ball identification number.
“The Penfold Golf and James Bond partnership has been almost 60 years in the making: since the famous Goldfinger round, which is regarded as golf's most iconic silver screen moment” said Gavin Perrett, CEO, Penfold Golf.
“With the official relaunch of Penfold Golf in 2020, and our dedication to telling the story of our incredible history, this partnership is the perfect natural progression. We are delighted to join the celebrations around the 25th Bond film, No Time To Die, and the forthcoming 60th anniversary in 2022.”
What is your favourite course?
[Gavin Perrett:] Favorite course I have played is tough. I’ve been lucky enough to play courses like Merion and Pine Valley. But I love a good Links and love going home to play my local course - Churston Golf Club. Would love to play Royal St George’s one day.
Have you ever played golf in Sweden or any other of the Nordic countries?
[Gavin Perrett:] I have been to Stockholm and have friends there, but never played golf in the Nordics. I can imagine it’s beautiful.
What is your recollections of Sean Connery as a golf player?
[Gavin Perrett:] I’m 37, so I don’t know much about him playing golf other than the movie and research I’ve done. I have some really cool pics of Sean playing with Seve Ballestros who are probably the two coolest people I’ve ever seen!!
The collection will be available at www.007store.com and www.penfoldgolf.com beginning in November 2021.
