The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia presents This Day in James Bond Movie History - remembering the late British actress Molly Peters and the late British-German actor Walter Gotell on the anniversary of their births.
In
Thunderball (1965),
Molly Peters (1942-2017) portrayed fetching blonde physical therapist Patricia Fearing, a medical professional who isn’t above a brief, memorable liaison with James Bond (
Sean Connery) who is recovering at Shrublands from a nasty poker whack from the late SPECTRE assassin Jacques Bouvard. Whether she’s disrobing in the steam room or receiving Bond’s mink glove massage in bed, Molly was a highlight.
Walter Gotell (1924-1997) debuted in
From Russia with Love (1963) as a SPECTRE Island training camp operative who introduces Rosa Klebb (
Lotte Lenya) to assassin Donald Grant (
Robert Shaw), and later takes care of Kronsteen, before embarking on a doomed motor boat assault on 007 and Tatiana (
Daniela Bianchi).
Gotell returns in
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) as a reasonable KGB General in charge of Major Amasova (
Barbara Bach), a rank he maintains throughout the
Roger Moore films. He would gradually be moved into the diplomatic service in
The Living Daylights (1987).
Because he was born in Germany, Gotell’s career is filled with memorable German military roles including The Guns of Navarone and 55 Days at Peking.
Let’s raise a tall glass of Guinness to Molly and a short shot of schnapps to Walter.
