The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia presents This Day in James Bond Movie History - wishing the very striking Italian Bond girl Daniela Bianchi of From Russia with Love (1963) a very Happy Birthday.

There are many startlingly beautiful women in the 007 series, but Italian actress Daniela Bianchi, a former Miss Rome, stood out as one of the most sensual.

As a thirteen-year-old seeing this film on a double feature with Dr. No in 1964, I was very impressed with Tatiana Romanova’s scene in James Bond’s (Sean Connery) hotel suite in Istanbul.

BOND: “You’re one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen.”
TATIANA: “Thank you but I think my mouth is to big.”

Okay! And then they jump in the sack. This was at a time when couples on network TV were still sleeping in separate beds! I didn’t know it, but we were in the early days of the sexual revolution – with Bond leading the way.

Daniela and Sean hit it off and their chemistry on screen is palpable. She also photographed amazingly well – particularly that negligee shot with 007, which was featured on the cover of the soundtrack.

So let’s raise a tall glass of Chianti to one of Italy’s most exciting exports to the movie world. Happy Birthday, Daniela.
