About Syd Cain:
Syd Cain, born in Grantham, Lincolnshire on 16 April 1918, is a British production designer who has worked on more than 30 films, including four in the James Bond series in the 1960s and 1970s. For
From Russia with Love (1963), he designed a $150,000 set for a chess match which repeated the "chess pawn" motive throughout the room.
He survived a plane crash in Rhodesia during World War II but broke broke his back. Later, he survived after being struck by lightning.
Cain had his name appear in documents in the films. In Our Man in Havana (1959), working as assistant art director, his name features on the blueprints of a vacuum cleaner. Alfred Hitchcock's Frenzy (1972) features an in joke of a racing form featuring the horse Jon Finch is to bet on is owned by a "Mrs S. Cain".
Not Forgetting James Bond was first published in hardback in November 2002 but that was a limited edition.
