The Top oh-oh-seven James Bond cars

FSWL ranks our favourites amongst the cars featured in the James Bond film series.

1. Aston Martin DB5
Car collector Harry Yeaggy bought an original model of these cars with all features for 2.9m GBP (4.6m USD). This car has been featured in five Bond films and is the most famous of the cars seen in the 23 films. It was first used in the 1964 film Goldfinger (1964) and became a success because it blends the classic with the modern in its design. It was presented with ejection seat and other features that give that little extra to the shining car.

2. Aston Martin DBS V12
In Casino Royale (2006), with a new actor taking on the role of James Bond, the series went back to its origins while changing the series for the future. The Aston Martin DBS V12, also seen in Quantum of Solace, was also a change but had none of the special characteristics that Bond's cars usually have. Secret compartments for guns and a defibrillator. The car is different from the earlier Aston Martin cars in the sense that it is both beautiful on the inside and the outside.

3. Lotus Esprit
Bond has even had a car to go underwater although, with the help of its four engines, could only drive straight ahead. The white streamlined Lotus Esprit with futuristic appearance was nicknamed "Wet Nellie" and was turned into a submarine and used in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977).

4. Ford Mustang Mach 1
In the 1971 film Diamonds Are Forever Bond escapes from the police in a Ford Mustang Mach 1 by driving the car on two wheels through a narrow alley. The car, in addition to making stunts and suitable for hard driving, is powerful and stable. This was the perfect car for the transition from the cool 1960s with Aston Martin cars to the more challenging 1970s.

5. Aston Martin V8 Volante
A Bond car equipped with laser, rockets, skis on the sides, studded tires and hardtop. 10 years earlier, the convertible version of Aston Martin V8 Volante had been presented as "the first super car in the UK" because it had a maximum speed of 270 km/h. Victor Gauntlett, Chairman of Aston Martin, actually own a version just like the car seen in the 1987 film The Living Daylights starring Timothy Dalton as new James Bond after Roger Moore.

6. Toyota 2000 GT
A car that is known to be very pleasant to drive is the Toyota 2000 GT. It has been called Japan's supercar and fitted like a glove in the 1967 film You Only Live Twice, where it was driven by the brave Bond girl Aki.

7. AMC Matador
This is a car that was used by super criminal Francisco Scaramanga (Christopher Lee) in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) when he made one of the neatest escapes in the history of films. His AMC Matador turned into an airplane. AMC had built a Matador for the film but it could only fly 500 meters so they used a full size model in the end.
