Q in every James Bond film from 1963 to 1999 except LIVE AND LET DIE 1973
Unfortunately, never met the beloved
Desmond Llewelyn in person. I 'only' saw him once, just before his tragic car accident in December 1999.
It was at the Royale Charity premiere of
The World Is Not Enough (1999) in London on November 23, he looked very fit and I couldn’t believe he was over 80 years of age.
Although I never met him personally, I have heard from several friends who knew him personally what a pleasant and dear man he was.
No other character has been portrayed longer in the James Bond series by the same man than Desmond's Q and he will always be remembered by generations of fans for years to come. He played Q in 17 films;
From Russia with Love (1963),
Goldfinger (1964) (1964),
Thunderball (1965) (1965),
You Only Live Twice (1967),
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969),
Diamonds Are Forever (1971),
The Man with the Golden Gun (1974),
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977),
Moonraker (1979) (1979),
For Your Eyes Only (1981),
Octopussy (1983) (1983),
A View to a Kill (1985),
The Living Daylights (1987),
Licence to Kill (1989),
GoldenEye (1995) (1995),
Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) and
The World Is Not Enough (1999).
Rest in peace Desmond, everyone miss you!
Editor's note:
In December 2005, I met Desmond's son
Justin Llewelyn, longstanding UK ambassador for Taittinger champagne.
