Becoming Bond - the acclaimed hybrid documentary (our review) written and directed by Josh Greenbaum - tells the story of how former Australian male model George Lazenby landed the role of James Bond in the 1969 film On Her Majesty's Secret Service. After multiple screenings in Australia, Belgium, Canada & USA it is released on DVD on 6th November.
After moving to London in search of love, Lazenby began a successful modelling career before being convinced to audition for the role of Bond. Despite having never acted in his life, Lazenby somehow overcame the odds and got the part, only to turn down the opportunity to continue in the role beyond his first film. Featuring extensive interviews with Lazenby himself alongside dramatic reconstructions of key events from his life, the film provides an insight into one of the strangest stories in Hollywood history.
Official synopis
A unique documentary/narrative hybrid chronicling the stranger-than-fiction true story of George Lazenby, a poor Australian car mechanic who, through an unbelievable set of circumstances, landed the role of James Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969), despite having never acted a day in his life. Then after being offered the next six Bond films and a One Million dollar signing bonus, he turned it all down.

Still much in demand on TV and film, Lazenby starred as Civil War General J Johnson Pettigrew and Superman’s father, Jor-El, a role initially essayed by Marlon Brando. Recent work includes a voice role the in DC Batman animated series and in critically acclaimed independent films such as Death Game, A Winter’s Rose and the forthcoming crime thriller, The Order.
