Italian Bond girl Caterina Murino, Solange in Casino Royale (2006), joins Bond actors Pierce Brosnan & Daniel Craig as well as Ukrainian Bond girl Olga Kurylenko as official face for Omega Watches.

Thursday 21 August, 2008 - James Bond has worn OMEGA Seamaster watches in every movie since 1995’s GoldenEye (1995). His has become a household name and 007 is an enduring part of our popular culture. The iconic secret agent is associated with the exotic espionage equipment and vehicles which play crucial roles in his missions. And, of course, there are the Bond Girls. Caterina Murino, who created such a memorable impression with international audiences when she appeared on-screen in a green bikini and riding a white horse in the movie Casino Royale, was the star attraction at an event celebrating the Bond Girls. It was held at the OMEGA Pavilion on the Olympic Green in Beijing.

Ms. Murino was joined onstage at the Pavilion by Kevin Rollenhagen, President of OMEGA Greater China. He described arriving in China for the first time in 1991 with a staff consisting of a part-time driver and a part-time translator. “Since that time, OMEGA has had a total transformation here, just like China itself.”

Rollenhagen talked about OMEGA’s involvement with the James Bond film franchise dating back to 1995. “GoldenEye was released that year and it was at just the time that our market in China was really starting to develop.” He pointed out that Casino Royale was the first James Bond film to receive official permission to be shown in China. “It was a powerful indicator of just how much the country has been opening up.”

Caterina Murino said that being cast in Casino Royale “was a huge present for me. It was like living a dream.”

She described how her participation in the film almost didn’t take place. She was preparing for another film which required her to ride a horse. A friend let her ride a race horse which threw her to the ground leading to a broken rib and injuries which made it difficult for her to walk. She was scheduled to audition for the role a day later but the director made other arrangements and she was successfully cast in the career-changing movie.

“When I got the script for Casino Royale,” she laughed, “it was 120 pages long. On those 120 pages there was one horse – mine.”

Asked whether she was a victim of the so-called Bond Girl jinx which suggests that actresses who are cast opposite 007 are type-cast in similar roles and not considered for more substantial parts, she answered, “No, no, no, no, no. I have been offered a range of completely different roles in films all over the world. All I can say is ‘Thanks again, Bond’.”

Caterina Murino starred in the 2007 film St. Trinian’s with Gemma Atherton, who has been cast as a Bond girl in the upcoming Quantum of Solace. Based on her close association with the Bond producers and her friendship with Atherton, could she give the audience any inside tips about the new Bond movie?

“I know everything about the script,” she said with a smile. “And I’ll share one detail with you. At one point Daniel Craig will say, ‘My name is Bond. James Bond.’”

Friday 14 March, 2008 - Caterina Murino, the stunning Italian actress best known for her sizzling performance as Solange Dimitrios in Casino Royale, was in Jakarta to celebrate the openings of two new OMEGA Boutiques on March 11th.

Ms Murino, who had already established herself as a star in Italy, France, and Spain, made a memorable first impression on international film audiences when she first appeared in Casino Royale wearing a skimpy green bikini and riding a white horse.

Her appearance at OMEGA’s two newest boutiques was nearly as memorable. She was on hand to help the prestigious Swiss watch brand inaugurate the boutiques – OMEGA’s first in Jakarta – on 11 March 2008. They are located in Jakarta’s newest upscale shopping centres, Grand Indonesia Shopping Town and Pacific Place Mall.

Caterina Murino enjoyed her visit to Jakarta and to the openings of the boutiques which aim to offer easier access to a more complete range of OMEGA products for Indonesian enthusiasts of superb timepieces and fine jewellery.

Ms Murino is not worried about the so-called “Bond girl jinx” – roles in the iconic spy films seem to have shortened some actresses’ careers. The trilingual star has maintained a busy filming schedule since the release of Casino Royale and she sees the Bond film as a vehicle which has enabled her to participate in a wide range of cinematic projects.

At the OMEGA Boutique opening, Ms Murino mentioned that she is particularly pleased that her Bond-based fame has allowed her to work as a celebrity ambassador for the African Medical and Research Foundation, a charity she supports passionately.

Ms Murino expressed enthusiasm for the range of watches and fine jewellery offered by the OMEGA Boutiques.

In the past 160 years, OMEGA has developed a reputation both for technical innovation and design excellence. The company is renowned for its pioneering spirit – the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional is the only watch ever to have been worn on the moon. OMEGA is also well-known for more than a century of precision records and for its long history of sports timekeeping achievements – including its role as official Olympic Timekeeper, a duty it will assume for the 23rd time this year in Beijing.

OMEGA also produces glamorous jewelled watches and is represented by such celebrity brand ambassadors as Nicole Kidman, Cindy Crawford and George Clooney. The presence of the two new flagship stores in Jakarta indicates the growing sophistication of Indonesian shoppers and the desire they have for luxury timepieces.

OMEGA was founded in 1848 and is a company of the Swatch Group, the world's leading watch manufacturer. Faithful to its original pioneering spirit, OMEGA continues to make technical and watchmaking history with innovation in areas as diverse as sports timing, precision technology and design - innovations that led to the conquest of ocean depths and space.

Through numerous partnership agreements at the top level of competition in various sporting disciplines such as golf, bobsleigh, yachting, athletics and swimming, OMEGA has actively supported for many years the ideal of perfection and precision. Since 1932 OMEGA has been the Official Timekeeper of 22 Olympic Games, a role it will also fulfil in Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010 and London 2012.

Wednesday 12 March, 2008 - OMEGA presents the new version of the Seamaster Diver 300m James Bond which collectors and fans have treasured since 1995.

For the past decade, Her Majesty’s Secret Service agent 007 has been wearing an OMEGA Seamaster watch. Fans of the iconic spy, along with enthusiasts of fine watches, wait in anticipation of each new version of the timepiece.

Their patience will soon be rewarded. OMEGA will be releasing a special update of the incredibly popular Seamaster Diver 300m James Bond watch which has been worn by 007 since GoldenEye (1995) (1995).

The « James Bond 007 Collector’s Piece » is the most elegant version yet and the next step in the evolution of the Seamaster Diver 300m James Bond watches.

Anyone familiar with the classic James Bond’s watch with its trademark blue bezel will be in for some surprises!

Visually striking, the « James Bond 007 Collector’s Piece » features a polished, lacquered black dial with black gold plated hour markers filled with white Super-LumiNova. The luminous hour and minute hands are also plated with black gold. The watch has a central seconds hand with a red tip and a red “007” logo as a counterweight which rotates in stark contrast to its black dial. Only 10,007 pieces of this exclusive Seamaster will be produced. Paying tribute to OMEGA’s long partnership with the world’s favourite secret agent, it is destined to be an instant collector’s item.

The watch has a distinctive polished and brushed stainless steel case with a diameter of 41 mm. Its specially-designed bracelet is unique to the James Bond watches and is one of the features which makes them immediately recognisable. The watch has a scratch-resistant, anti-reflective domed sapphire crystal.

The « James Bond 007 Collector’s Piece » is not only aesthetically dazzling. James Bond would be disappointed with any technology that wasn’t the most advanced in the world and this watch meets his most exacting demands. It features OMEGA’s calibre 2500 self-winding movement fitted with the revolutionary Co-Axial Escapement, which reduces friction while offering better long-term accuracy.

The watch is a certified chronometer with functions essential to professional divers. Its screw-in case back (with a “007” medallion) and stainless steel screw-in crown featuring an OMEGA logo ensure water resistance. The watch also has a unidirectional rotating bezel with a distinctive black aluminium ring. A helium escape valve allows helium atoms to escape during decompression, particularly necessary for professional divers operating from diving bells. As its name suggests, the watch is water resistant up to 300 metres.

The presentation case is nearly as striking as the watch itself. Crafted from black leather, its black interior calls to mind the lining of the tuxedos which are as synonymous to Bond as the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300m watches he’s been wearing for more than a decade.

While some of the advanced features will appeal particularly to divers, the « James Bond 007 Collector’s Piece » will prove irresistible to fans of 007 and to anyone interested in elegant, distinctive, state-of-the-technology watches.

The newest film, Quantum of Solace (2008), produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for EON Productions and directed by Marc Forster, will be released internationally in November 2008. Daniel Craig will reprise his role as James Bond for this 22nd film in the Bond series.
