Pierce Brosnan Deauville Talent Award
James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan visited the 45th edition of Deauville American film festival on 6th September 2019 to accept this year's honorary Talent Award. His fourth visit at the festival since 1999.

The 45th Deauville American Film Festival kicked off with a very distinguished guest in the form of James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan whose immense popularity is still evident.

Having received a prize for his entire career, Pierce accepted the honour with great elegance and gratitude, despite a bad case of laryngitis.

Friday, September 6th began with a big opening ceremony culminating in the Talent Award which Pierce received.

French director Régis Warnier gave the introductory speech summarizing Brosnan’s extensive career, then Pierce came on stage to talk about how he became an actor as the audience - including Catherine Deneuve, Roman Polanski, and many others celebrities – listened attentively.

He is still very grateful for James Bond, who allowed him to create his production company and make films both before and after his time as Ian Fleming’s iconic secret agent.

“James Bond is a gift in life, he gave me a lot and continues to give me ... and thanks to him, I am still at the table. I continue to work…” the star said.

When asked if he is bothered to be asked about 007, he replied:
“No, I'll talk and answer James Bond, as long as people want to talk about it. It's part of the package when you've played Bond, you have to be grateful and take it”

An interesting moment was when he said that in 1986 he was hired by Albert R. [Cubby] Broccoli to play Bond in The Living Daylights and how, after 60 days, the contract was cancelled because of a misunderstanding between Cubby and the producers of the Remington Steele TV series, for which Pierce was contractually still engaged.

“Cubby allowed them to shoot 6 episodes, but they wanted to shoot 24. After 90 days, I got a phone call from my agent Fred Spector ...Merde, merde, merde [Pierce speaks in French during his acceptance speech), it was screwed up, Cubby had decided not to give in to MTM Production's blackmail and decided to hire Timothy.”

He continued, “But Bond and I, there is a strong link since he came back in my life, 9 years later, and maybe it was better that way.”

I have been meeting with Pierce for almost 25 years, in a relationship based on friendship and trust. Accompanied by my friends Joel Villy and Patricia, Pierce invited us to spend a private moment with him at his hotel. He is a man with a big heart, a faithful man who has always been very generous with his time for us – a true star in every sense of the word.
