Hats off and sincere congratulations to James Bond 007 producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli on receiving the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award last night. This honorary Academy Award – previously given to Albert R. Broccoli in 1982 – was presented to Michael and Barbara by Daniel Craig at the Governors Awards in LA.
In his speech, Daniel Craig said: "Michael and Barbara took risks, championed diversity, and brought emotional depth to a character who’s been a cultural touchstone for over 60 years. Their dedication to the craft and their faith in storytellers like me is the reason Bond has remained iconic.”
In her acceptance speech, Barbara Broccoli said: “It’s been a privilege to steward this character, and we’re grateful for the incredible team that has made Bond what he is today."
Michael G. Wilson, her step-brother, continued: “We’ve always believed that staying true to the spirit of Bond while evolving with the times is key, and we’re honored to see that effort recognized tonight. My sister Barbara is only the second woman to be given this prestigious award. I have to say thank you to you for the support and inspiration you’ve given to me over the last 40 years.”
