Conspiracy of Silence is a new political thriller series about Sweden's arms exports, produced by Viaplay in cooperation with Brain Academy and Pinewood Television. The main character, Robert Kastell, is played by Jens Hultén (one of Silva's men in Skyfall). He’s a former arms dealer forced into exile but returning to Sweden to seek revenge on the man who previously tried to kill him.

Viaplay previously announced its new slate of original productions and confirmed Conspiracy of Silence as one of them. "Strong stories and characters are what drives our original series and are a prerequisite when we go into a new production,” said Ira Gladnikoff, CEO of Viaplay. “Conspiracy of Silence has both and will affect the audience on many levels,” she continues, adding, “We are really excited to launch this, the first, Viaplay original with an international touch.”

"I'm delighted to play the lead role as Robert Kastell in this exciting new thriller series for Viaplay with Sweden's export of weapons as one of the ingredients. There are many layers of moral issues in this series, from the executive level down to the individual, and how this affects some characters will follow during the series. Robert is a character that has been involved in this business many years ago and gets caught in it again after several years away from it," Jens Hultén comments.

Acclaimed Swedish actress Vera Vitali portrays the main role opposite Hultén with Norwegian actor Henrik Mestad in one of the supporting roles.

Conspiracy of Silence is an intense human portrait where the characters are affected by external forces. The story takes place in a world everyone can relate to – the international arms trade. Writer Peter Arrhenius (Welcome to Sweden) wants to touch and create a discussion around this controversial subject: the Swedish weapon industry.

The series is a story of double standards and blame. The main characters are linked to the fact that they all have made bad choices which they regret but cannot revert. “Sweden is a major part of the international weapons industry, so it’s the perfect background for a movie with these ingredients….” Arrhenius says. “On the one hand, you have the nation's international reputation as a neutral peacekeeper, free from any bias. On the other hand, the fact that Sweden is one of the world's largest manufacturers and exporters of weapons.”

The series is directed by Award-winning French-Swedish director Charlotte Brändström, recognized for her work in celebrated series such as Tyrant and Outlander. The series of eight episodes takes place in Sweden and elsewhere around the world, and will be distributed internationally by Eccho Rights.
