The first three episodes of The Nacelle Company's new series Icons Unearthed: James Bond has now been released in America via VICE TV's network. With brilliant narration by Live and Let Die (1973) actress Gloria Hendry and George Lazenby being the only one of the James Bond actors interviewed, the series is a great joy for the fans now that it seems to be a long wait for the next film.
Below is a breakdown of the titles and synopsis for all the epsidoes in the 6-part series which is based on the fantastic book Some Kind of Hero: The Remarkable Story of the James Bond Films (a sort of biography on the film series) written by FSWL contributor Ajay Chowdhury together with Matthew Field.
Episode One of Icons Unearthed: James Bond - A Spy is Born
Original broadcast on Wednesday, October 4, 2023
James Bond began with real-life spy and anxious bridegroom Ian Fleming; it would take a bumpy road to bring this spy story to the screen.
Episode Two - The Man Who Wouldn't Be King
Original broadcast on Wednesday, October 11, 2023
With the departure of their star, Cubby Broccoli and Harry Saltzman must find a new actor to play the super-spy. George Lazenby steps in to tell his version of the story.
Episode Three - Changing Times
Original broadcast on Wednesday, October 18, 2023
Though diamonds may be forever, Sean Connery was not; embracing the cultural changes of the '70s takes Bond to new heights, but for one producer it would be the end of an era.
Episode Four - Over a Cliff
To be broadcast on Wednesday, October 25, 2023
With an aging actor in the lead and a new director in charge, the "Battle of the Bonds" divides the franchise before a new, gritty take on the character nearly drives it to ruin.
Episode Five - A Dinosaur Reborn
To be broadcast on Thursday, November 2, 2023
Synopsis to be announced.
Episode Six - James Bond-The Blonde
To be broadcast on Thursday, November 9, 2023
Synopsis to be announced.
Yours truly was instrumental in getting most of the Bond alumni onboard the project. Apart from Ajay Chowdhury, other members of the FSWL team interviewed for the series included authors John Cork and Steven Jay Rubin. (FSWL readers Lee Pfeiffer, Matt Sherman, Mark Edlitz and Matthew Field were also been interviewed for the series.)
