In a PM from Miss Moneypenny's desk in London, Ian Fleming Publications remembers the creator of James Bond, Ian Fleming (1908-1964), on the day of his death. Classification: Gold level (For Your Eyes Only)

The message reads as follows...

“To our agents in the field,

On 12 August 1964, the great writer Ian Fleming died of heart failure.

His achievements were many, but he is most well known today for the stories that introduced our very own Agent 007 to the world. Our colleagues over at Ian Fleming Publications have just shared a short piece celebrating Fleming’s life, but that’s not all that it covers.

Whilst it is of course important to remember our roots, reflect on our past and honour those no longer with us, we must move forwards. As Rene Mathis told Bond, “There is still plenty for you to do. And you’ll do it.” So it is with great pleasure that we take the opportunity to look ahead.

One of the most crucial facets of espionage is identity. Perception, appearance, truth and reality is the world spies and spy fiction move in. Come with us as we delve into this world and bring three shadowy figures back into the light: Markham. Benson. Pearson.

On 5 October 2023, Ian Fleming Publications will be releasing new editions of three classic Bond titles, all featuring brand-new introductions.

These titles are Colonel Sun by Kingsley Amis, Zero Minus Ten by Raymond Benson and James Bond: The Authorised Biography by John Pearson. They will all be published in paperback in the UK and priced at £9.99 each.
