In a PM from Miss Moneypenny's desk in London, Ian Fleming Publications has presented the covers for their new editions of the following James Bond novels - Colonel Sun (1968) written by Kingsley Amis, The Authorised Biography of James Bond (1973) by John Pearson, and Zero Minus Ten (1997) by Raymond Benson. Classification: Gold level (For Your Eyes Only)
The message reads as follows...
“To our agents in the field,
The age-old adage is ‘never judge a book by its cover’, and this often has relevance within our line of work – the agent who is fooled by an enemy operative’s disguise as a tradesman, politician, or simple passer-by, well, they don’t stay an agent for long.
Yet it is the case today that we think you can safely discard that old saying, as the team at
Ian Fleming Publications have just revealed the covers for the three reissues of classic Bond titles that they’ll be publishing on October 5th, all with brand-new introductions. The design brief was to deliver covers which were efficient, bold, attention grabbing and modern. We hope you’ll agree that the covers for
Kingsley Amis’ Colonel Sun,
Raymond Benson’s Zero Minus Ten and
John Pearson’s James Bond: The Authorised Biography fulfil these criteria. Whilst M didn’t have a great deal to say on the matter, there seemed a little extra flourish in the ticks he gave for each of the covers in his typical green ink – which we can assume is a strong sign of enthusiasm.

Alongside the covers you can also read an interview with the designer,
David Eldridge, to learn more about the process of giving these beloved stories a new look.
Agents are reminded that signed copies of
Zero Minus Ten are available to pre-order for delivery to the UK and US here, but do note that they won’t be dispatched until early November.
For those stationed in the UK I’m pleased to inform you that your fellow agent,
Charlie Higson, will be making several public appearances over the coming months to talk about his latest bestselling book,
On His Majesty’s Secret Service. Details and relevant links are below, please do show your support if he’ll be near your posts.

Please keep a lookout for more announcements in the coming weeks as the seasons change and autumn begins to bring down those mighty oak branches that darken the sky. There is a new partnership to reveal shortly and we advise you to prepare your mind for the game.
Sincerely,
Miss Moneypenny”
