Australian actor George Lazenby who famously portrayed James Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) has announced that he will no longer continue acting, and won't make any more public appearances or interviews. This news marks the end of an era for a very inspiring man. To say the least.

George's announcment was posted in all of his social media channels (Facebook, Instagram and X) and read:

“This hasn’t been an easy decision but it’s time to announce my retirement from work. Therefore, I won’t be doing any more acting or making public appearances, doing any more interviews or signing any more autographs as of today. It’s been a fun ride but getting older is no fun.

I would like to thank my manager and friend, Anders Frejdh, for helping me since 2013 - the best representative I ever had. I can now concentrate on spending more time with my family. My sincere gratitude to everyone out there for your love and support over the years. It has meant a lot to me. George xx”

Following the announcment, love and support for George started to pour in from all corners of the globe. Only the Twitter post was viewed over 1.5 Million times.

It has been a lot of work with fantastic memories but an incredible honour for a James Bond fan from a small town in Sweden (Hjo) to have received the question of becoming his manager 11 years ago. Travels all over the world with a lot of golf and lifelong friendship is just a small part I will bring with me in the future. George's life story is more fascinating and inspiring than the role he played 55 years ago but with which he will always be associated.

The news of Lazenby's retirement spread like wildfire all over the world. Below is a selection of all the articles that were published about it:

>Aftonbladet
>BBC
>Deadline
>Euronews
>Guardian
>Omni
>Variety
