New film in the works from the production company behind the James Bond films

According to an exclusive news article published by Deadline on 12th December 2024, EON Productions (the production company behind the James Bond movies), is planning a remake of their classic film released in 1968, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. This news will no doubt raise questions about the status of Bond 26.

EON Productions are in development with
Amazon MGM Studios on a reimagined film adaptation of the classic
Dick Van Dyke family pic
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Sources say that development is in early stages, with Eon and Amazon execs currently setting meetings with potential writers and directors.
The film is being developed with a theatrical release in mind, and the project builds on Eon and Amazon MGM’s partnership on the James Bond franchise.
The much-loved children’s story
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: The Magical Car was written by Bond author
Ian Fleming in the mid-1960s, and adapted into a screenplay by
Roald Dahl,
Ken Hughes with
Richard Maibaum. In 1968, the film was released in cinemas starring Van Dyke, directed by Ken Hughes and produced by
Cubby Broccoli.
Ken Adam handled production design and the music included the Oscar-nominated title song by
Robert and
Richard Sherman.
Dana Broccoli was one of the producers of the Olivier- and Tony-nominated stage musical version of
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang that included six new Sherman brothers songs and premiered at the London Palladium in 2002, followed by the Lyric Theatre on Broadway in 2005. The show is currently on tour in the UK.”
