FSWL feels like the rest of the James Bond world and mourns the loss of Sean Connery who passed away at home in the Bahamas on 31st October 2020 at the age of 90. Our thoughts now go to Sean's family and friends.
Earlier today, Sir Sean Connery's son Jason Connerytold the BBC his father passed away peacefully at his home in The Bahamas. FSWL founder Anders Frejdh comments the devastating news:
“For Bond fans, he was the original and the best. He took what Ian Fleming had written and made it real. He was a man of his time and a man of action: around the world and between the sheets.
From Bond girls to Bond gadgets, from Bond baddies to Bond booze, Sean Connery created an incredible world of the 007. He created the modern action hero. Besides, he was so much more: interested in producing, in charity work.
He, of course, was famous for golf, and I always hoped to play a round with him at some point. I remember going to a Q&A with him at the 2006 Edinburgh Film Festival and was impressed by how well he spoke. In later years, I got to know his son, Jason, a little bit through his acting and directing.
As a small boy growing up in Sweden, Sean represented all that James Bond was to me: stylish and sophisticated, debonnaire and dangerous, worldly and witty.
FSWL deeply mourns the death of Sir Sean Connery and extends deepest condolences to Lady Micheline and the rest of the immediate family, and also his family of fans of whom I am proud to be part of.”
Of the five James Bond actors who have taken on the role after Connery, only George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig are still alive. Both Lazenby and Brosnan shared their thoughts about Sean Connery on Instagram:
Sean Connery worked with a number of Swedish film makers including Sven Nykvist in Ransom, Ingrid Bergman in Murder on the Orient Express, Max von Sydow in Never Say Never Again, and Stellan Skarsgård in Hunt for Red October to name a few. And his movement coach was Yat Malmgren , the Swedish dancer who gave Connery that panther like prowl. Sean also visited Sweden numerous times over the years.
When I attened the Q&A with Sean Connery in Edinburgh on his 76th birthday in 2006, he was asked which director he'd like to work with that never happened. His response, “Ingmar Bergman”.
