Sad to report the passing of our good friend and supporter Robert Dix who died on 6th August 2018 aged 83 (his wife Lynette informed us). Robert, or Bob, was son of legendary Hollywood star Richard Dix and played Hamilton in 1973 James Bond film Live and Let Die directed by ... Guy Hamilton.
I remember Robert, or Bob as he was more often was called, warmly. He was a very sympathetic person and liked by everyone. After we first met, we kept in touch via phone, email, and in recent years, Facebook. He fondly remember the Bond film since
Roger Moore was a dear friend who personally invited Bob to appear in the film after they randomly met during the filmind in New Orleans. Bob also had great respect for
Guy Hamilton, who was always open to ideas from actors during film productions.
Yours truly with Bob Dix and his then wife Mary Ellen after a dinner in Los Angeles 2009.
During
our interview with Bob in 2009, he told us how the friendship with
Roger Moore began:
“We had a mutual friend who worked as the assistant-head of the Talent Department at
MGM. He was a man I knew from my youth,
Tom Tannenbaum. He was responsible for getting me the MGM contract. Tom is now deceased, the loss of a good friend to both Roger and me. Tom introduced us. The three of us would make the rounds of some of the nightclubs in Hollywood. It was important to show our British Buddy around!”
In revent years, Bob wrote two books about work in the film industry,
Out of Hollywood: Two Generations of Actors published in 2009, and
To Be A Star: A Guide For Actors and Others published 2013.
