From Sweden with Love feels like the rest of the James Bond community and mourns the loss of Peter Lamont who passed away at home in England on 18th December 2020 at the age of 91 surrounded by his family after suffering complications from pneumonia. Our thoughts now go to Peter's children and grandchildren.
Peter Lamont's children, Madelaine and Neil, confirmed his death in the morning of Saturday 18th December 2020 which coincidentially marked the 51st Anniversary of the World Premiere of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), a film that Peter worked on as Set Decorator.
FSWL founder Anders Frejdh comments the sad news of Peter Lamont's passing:
“Deeply saddened to hear that Peter Lamont has left us. We met many times over the years and I last spoke to him on his 91st birthday in November. He was in good spirit and graciously invited me to come back to the UK and visit him again as soon as Corona would allow it.
Always kind, grateful and appreciative of the people who admired his work as art director, set decorator and production designer. He happily shared many stories with me and others. With 18 James Bond films on his resume and an Oscar® for designing Titanic (1997), it's fair to say we've lost another legend during this horrible year.
We last met exactly one year ago for a special 50th Anniversary screening of On Her Majesty's Secret Service in London that I helped organise.
I will miss you dearly, Peter. Rest in peace, my friend.”

James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said:
“Peter was a much beloved member of the Bond family and a giant in the industry. Inextricably linked with the design and aesthetic of James Bond since Goldfinger (1964), he became Production Designer on For Your Eyes Only (1981) working on 18 of the 25 films including nine as Production Designer. He was a true success story proving that with talent and hard work you will achieve your dreams. He won the Academy Award for Titanic in 1998 as well as nominations for Fiddler on the Roof (1971), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), and Aliens (1986). Our hearts go out to his family and all those who worked with him over many years. He will be very sorely missed.”
