Fifty-Four years ago, the last official Sean Connery Bond, Diamonds Are Forever (1971) stormed its way into theaters. Along with the return of a slightly older Connery as 007, the film introduced a pair of wisecracking yet lethal hit men – Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd. Sadly, one half of that glorious screen partnership has passed at age 93. Actor Bruce Glover died on 12th March 2025 as reported by his son, actor, writer and director Crispin Glover.
Thanks to
From Sweden with Love founder,
Anders Frejdh, I got to know
Bruce Glover and took several of his legendary acting classes. (I even glimpsed THE scorpion pickled in a jar in his studio bathroom!)
In person, Bruce was friendly and zany – unafraid to say anything. Anders and I had dinner with him and his lovely wife
Betty (who pre-deceased him in 2016) at the famous Polo Lounge in Beverly Hills. Bruce had plenty of stories to tell – not just from
Diamonds Are Forever, but a slew of his other films including
Chinatown starring
Jack Nicholson,
Walking Tall with
Joe Doe Baker,
Popcorn,
Hard Times and more, from an enviable career spanning six decades.
When not acting, Bruce shared his wealth of knowledge with aspiring actors and loved chatting with Bond fans. A prankster, Bruce pretended to have a crush on Connery during production. The dour Scotsman eventually caught on and enjoyed the joke. Although they never worked together again, they would send greetings to each other through common friends working on Connery’s other films.
Sadly, the circle of surviving Original Bond cast and crew is closing and Bruce Glover is a major loss to us all. Bruce will never be forgotten by movie fans around the globe and our condolences go out to his very talented son,
Crispin Glover, of whom Bruce was very proud. (Bruce thought he’d make a great James Bond.)
Thank you for the magic, Mr. Wint.
