Birthday of Per Hallberg, one of many talented Swedes in Hollywood with James Bond connection, who received an Academy Award (his third) for his work as supervising sound editor on SKYFALL at the ceremony in February 2013. During our James Bond festival in Stockholm Per announced that he wass also going to work on SPECTRE, the 24th Bond film that premiered at cinemas in October 2015.

About Swedish supervising sound editor Per Hallberg

"Our job is to transport audiences into a different time and place," says Per Hallberg. "When we do our jobs well, not only do we feel like we're part of the movie but we've also helped push our emotions along the way."

A native of Sweden, Hallberg moved to the United States in his twenties. He started as an assistant and also worked in all the different disciplines of his craft including editing dialogue, sound effects, and foley. During one of his first films as supervising sound editor, Karen Baker Landers was his first assistant. They worked well together and decided to become professional partners. Hallberg and Baker Landers recently celebrated their 25th anniversary as a supervising sound editor team.

"We complement each other very nicely," Hallberg says of his partnership with Baker Landers. He adds "It's especially helpful today with time pressures and schedules constantly changing."

Hallberg and Baker Landers received Oscars for their work on Skyfall (2012) (2012) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). Hallberg also received an Oscar for Braveheart (shared with Lon Bender) and an Oscar nomination for Face/Off (shared with Formosa Group's Mark Stoeckinger). Hallberg has received six MPSE Golden Reel Awards (including Black Hawk Down) out of 21 nominations and three BAFTA Awards out of six nominations.
