The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia presents This Day in James Bond Movie History - remembering the late actress Zena Marshall (1925-2009) on the anniversary of her birth in 1925.
Zena Marshall portrayed the enticing Miss Taro, a secretary in Kingston, Jamaica’s government house who happens to be an undercover operative for the nefarious Dr. No (
Joseph Wiseman), in the first 007 adventure,
Dr. No (1962). To assist Professor Dent (
Anthony Dawson) in eliminating James Bond (
Sean Connery), Miss Taro uses her charms to lure him to her cottage in the Blue Mountains, where it’s nice and cool. Bond’s journey is supposed to be interrupted permanently by a hearse full of No’s agents, but he manages to get the drop on them literally – and their hearse goes flying off the cliff, leading to one of Bond’s great quips. Asked by a construction worker, “how did it happen?” Bond replies, “I think they were on their way to a funeral.”
Miss Taro is fresh out of the bath, in a towel, when her doorbell rings. To her astonishment, it is Bond, which leads to an off-camera tryst.
So let’s raise another rum cocktail to a wonderfully sexy actress of the 60s who gave new meaning to towel bath wear. Just be careful of her nail varnish.
