FSWL reader Martijn Mulder have announced that his next On the Tracks of 007 tour will be a return to Japan. Between April 7 to April 21 next year, 40 people have the chance to enjoy the Japanese culture and visit all the locations used for the filming of You Only Live Twice (1967).
Jump on board of the bullet train and enjoy Japan during a 15-day journey to the filming locations of the classic James Bond film starring Sean Connery as Ian Fleming's 007.
The tour starts in Tokyo and ends in Kagoshima. It will include 4-5 star accommodation and transportation (train, boat, bus) inside the country. All existing locations from the 1967 film will be visited: New Otani Hotel, Nachisan, Himeji, Kobe, Kagoshima, Akime, and many others. Additionally, there will be a visit the abandoned island from Skyfall (2012), off coast of Nagasaki!
Tour organiser Martijn Mulder comments:
“Of all the locations in the Bond films, Japan still stands firmly as the most exotic ever used. In my opinion at least. Back in 1966-67, it was definitely considered exotic. Unspoiled and unknown enough to send Bond there on his latest mission. Today, some 55 years later, these things can still be said of this beautiful country. Its cultural heritage, being so different - not only from the West, but different from the rest of the East as well - and a very turbulent history filled with samurai, ninja, kamikaze pilots and two devastating atomic bombs, make Japan one of the most interesting countries one can visit!”
In April 2017, 40 James Bond fans including FSWL founder Anders Frejdh travelled to Japan for two weeks to celebrate the 50th anniversary of You Only Live Twice. In the YouTube video below, you can see the tiny fishing village of Akime, followed by TV crews and other members of the Japanese press. The reception in Akime was something out of the ordinary: The kindness and hospitality of the Japanese people is one of a kind. After Akime, the tour group travelled to Shigetomi-so, or in the film 'the house where Tiger Tanaka lives'. This gives you an idea of what the 2023 tour will be like.
