John Barry Memorial Concert on BBC Radio

On Friday, July 1, 2011 at 8pm BBC Radio 2 will broadcast the Memorial Concert to John Barry at the Royal Albert Hall.
Sir Michael Parkinson introduces the memorial concert to celebrate the life of composer John Barry, which was recorded at the Royal Albert Hall on June 20, 2011.
One of the most celebrated film composers of his generation, John Barry scored more than 125 films over the course of his career and won five Oscars. The concert will feature some of his best loved compositions, from
Bond themes (1962-1987), to
The Lion in Winter (1968),
Out of Africa (1985) and
Dances with Wolves (1990).
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Nicholas Dodd with a programme assembled by John's wife, Laurie Barry, and composer
David Arnold. There will be performances from
Dame Shirley Bassey, Rumer and Wynne Evans, as well as tributes from
Don Black, Sir Michael Caine,
Timothy Dalton, Sir George Martin, and Sir Tim Rice.
This concert opens Friday Night Music Night's Film Season on BBC Radio 2 which will also feature Brit School students performing classics from the silver screen, songs from Shrek the Musical, and a musical celebration of British film comedy.
