Meet Fields. Strawberry Fields. Happy 35th birthday, Gemma!

The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia presents This Day in James Bond Movie History - wishing a very happy birthday to Quantum of Solace (2008) actress Gemma Arterton.

In Quantum of Solace, following a long tradition of female sacrificial lambs, Gemma portrayed MI6 agent Strawberry Fields who is sent to La Paz, Bolivia to convince 007 (Daniel Craig) to abandon his mission and return to England. Instead, she falls for Bond’s charms, and, like Jill Masterson in Goldfinger (1964), winds up dead. Instead of being painted gold, her lungs are filled with crude oil. Not a very happy ending for this stunning figure – as M (Judi Dench) explains to her rebellious double-O.

Gemma made her film debut in 2007 in the comedy St. Trinians, which also featured actress Caterina Murino, who was the sacrificial lamb in Casino Royale (2006).

We used to say that Auric Goldfinger had the kiss of death, but James Bond gives him a run for his money. Modern spying can be a cruel business.
