The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia presents This Day in James Bond Movie History - remembering the late Canadian actor Cec Linder who was born on this day in 1921. In Goldfinger (1964), Linder (1921-1992) became the second actor to play CIA agent Felix Leiter.
His first name, a derivative of Cecil, is pronounced CEESE. It is Linder who is introduced walking through Miami Beach’s Fontainebleu Hotel, past the high divers, ice skaters and bathing beauties, where he finds James Bond (
Sean Connery) being massaged by the awesome Dink (
Margaret Nolan). “I thought I’d find you in good hands,” says Leiter.
Although over the years,
Felix Leiter is never much of an action star, Cec’s Leiter is even more of an observer than usual – a conservatively-dressed, by-the-book agent who follows Washington’s orders to the T – and thankfully tracks a captive 007 to Goldfinger’s stud ranch in Kentucky. According to Linder, the role of Leiter was down to himself and
Austin Willis who lost out and was given the role of Mr. Simmons, Goldfinger’s gin opponent.
So let’s raise a tall one to Mr. Linder on the anniversary of his birth.
