She has received several Golden Globe nominations and awards for her work in film, as well as being the only actor to ever receive a nomination for her work in a James Bond movie.
In 2003, Barbara Carrera’s Hollywood Legends series was the subject of a two month solo exhibition at the Hollywood entertainment museum in Hollywood, California. These bold, larger than life sized portraits of film icons and Hollywood legends were inspired by Miss Carrera’s personal association with some of the great actors of our time. Her Hollywood legend portraits strike a balance between the subjects outer star quality and their inner humanity.
Some of the legendary actors she painted were actors with whom she has worked. When she started in the film business, she vowed to work with some of the old time greats. Some of the ones she did manage to work with are,
Sean Connery (with whom she co-starred in the James Bond film,
Never Say Never Again),
Bette Davis whom she starred with in the black comedy
Wicked Stepmother and
Paul Newman in
When Time Ran Out. Some of the other great actors that Miss Carrera also worked with include
Laurence Olivier in
Wild Geese,
Burt Lancaster and
Michael York in
The Island of Dr. Moreau, and
Peter O’Toole in
Masada.
Barbara also painted past legends such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Greta Garbo, Charlie Chaplin, Anthony Quinn, James Dean, Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, Vivien Leigh (As Scarlet O’Hara) and Clark Gable(As Rhett Butler). In addition to portraits, Barbara Carrera paints visionary landscapes with insightful images.
Dedicated to daily meditation, Miss Carrera draws inspiration for her art from hours of introspection. She becomes intensely involved with her subjects and seeks to capture their inner essence.
