Stars and Wars - the memoirs of Oscar-nominated Art Director Alan Tomkins, a long-time member of the 'Bond family', to be published by The History Press. The foreword is written by Oliver Stone - the American film director, screenwriter and producer who has won three Academy Awards for his work on Born on the Fourth of July, Midnight Express and Platoon.

Alan Tomkins reveals his unpublished film artwork and behind-the-scenes photographs from an acclaimed career that spanned more than 40 years in both British and Hollywood cinema.

Tomkins’s art appeared in celebrated films such as Dr. No (1962), Lawrence of Arabia (1962), From Russia with Love (1963), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), which would earn him his Oscar® nomination, A View to a Kill (1985), JFK (1991), Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (1991) with Sean Connery as King Richard, Saving Private Ryan (1998), Reign of Fire (2002) with Izabella Scorupco, Die Another Day (2002) and Batman Begins (2005).

He shares his own unique experiences alongside these wonderful illustrations and photographs for the very first time. Having worked alongside eminent directors such as David Lean, Oliver Stone, Stanley Kubrick, Franco Zeffirelli, and Clint Eastwood, Tomkins has now produced a book that is a must-have for all lovers of classic cinema.
