The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia presents This Day in James Bond Movie History - wishing actress Maryam d’Abo a safe and happy 60th birthday. The London native played Kara Milovy, a willowy, Czechoslovakian cellist who gets caught in a huge web of international intrigue in Timothy Dalton’s 007 debut, The Living Daylights (1987).

It seems that Kara has fallen under the spell of renegade Soviet general Georgi Koskov (Jeroen Krabbe) whom Kara believes seriously wants to defect. In reality, Koskov is in cahoots with Brad Whitaker (Joe Don Baker), a nefarious arms trader, with whom he’s negotiating a huge drug deal with Afghanistani rebels.

Maryam d’Abo is perfectly cast as the innocent dupe – and her chemistry with the new James Bond – Timothy Dalton - is palpable.

She’s another fine discovery for the Bond series – part of a long line of amazing international actresses who received their first exposure under the 007 flag.

So let’s raise a martini, shaken not stirred of course, to Maryam, and let us also toast each other as we celebrate the upcoming New Year.

Since her time as a Bond girl, Maryam d'Abo has worked continuously in film and television including Leon the Pig Farmer (1992), Solitaire For Two, The Point Men (2001), Doctor Zhivago (2002), Helen of Troy (2003), San Antonia (2004), Dorian Gray (2009) and Finding Altamira (2016).

In 2002, she wrote a book (along with John Cork) and produced a documentary called Bond Girls Are Forever, featuring interviews with the most famous and most beautiful Bond girls from Ursula Andress to Halle Berry.
