In the fifth book of the 007 XXS series, James Bond expert Danny Morgenstern takes a look at Thunderball (1965). More than 74 million people saw the blockbuster at American cinemas alone. The fourth film starring Sean Connery not only won an Oscar, it also had all the ingredients required for a Bond film. The film's success took a long time to arrive: After Ian Fleming’s wrote his 1961 novel Thunderball intellectual theft and became embroiled in lawsuits, Connery was tired of the 007 figure and slept during the filming even while the camera was running, and stuntman Bob Simmons was burnt by a whisker when staging an action scene.

This book examines not only the history of the novel, but also the development of the script from the first draft to the screenplay. Morgenstern also reveals some cross-references to the latest film adventure, SPECTRE, which premieres in October 2015. Numerous previously unpublished photos by Thomas Stephan make this book a must for James Bond fans.
