There was a lot of love in the room at Gloria Hendry’s sold-out concert at Herb Albert’s famous LA music venue, the Vibrato Grill and Jazz, on 8th February 2024. Gloria, Rosie Carver in the 1973 James Bond film Live and Let Die, backed by Jimmy McConnell’s 18-piece Big Band provided an epic night of music and memories as she tore through her 13-song set.
“Life is like a roller coaster,” the Bond star said after taking the stage in a long gown, “you just gotta hang on and ride!” And then she took the crowd on a two-hour journey covering jazz standards and a number of Bond classics -
Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker,
All Time High,
Thunderball,
You Only Live Twice and, of course,
Live and Let Die, all belted out with real gusto and passion.
Throughout her show, Gloria would share tidbits from her epic career – she recalled Harry Saltzman as a “wonderful man with white hair and a youthful face.” Her agent told her to go to New Orleans to meet with Guy Hamilton and Roger Moore.
“I had never even seen a Bond movie,” Gloria laughed. Apparently, she aced the meeting because “They put me in a big limo to the airport. I went back to New York, and they said I got the role and I never said one line!” She spoke very warmly about Roger Moore, even letting slip that she ate garlic the night before their big kissing scene. “But he was married to an Italian woman,” she said, getting a big laugh.
Celebrities in the house included actress/singer
Frieda Payne,
Star Trek actress
Barbara Luna, and actor
Grand L. Bush of
Licence to Kill (1989),
Lethal Weapon and
Die Hard fame.

Jimmy McConnell’s band was on fire, with no less than 12 musicians on horns alone. After the show, Gloria was mobbed by well-wishers who handed her a veritable mountain of flowers – but her huge smile said she didn’t mind at all!
