James Bond and The Macallan are pioneering and innovative characters. They are bound together by a shared Scottish heritage. To celebrate a year since The Macallan Distillers Limited launched The Macallan James Bond 60th Anniversary Release, they reflect on their shared values and enduring partnership with James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions, and Archive Director Meg Simmonds.
On October 5th, 1962, Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli and Harry Saltzman released Dr. No. It was the first official James Bond story to be shown in cinemas. Inspired by Ian Fleming’snovel published in 1958, the film was a runaway hit. Its arrival marked the birth of a legend, launching one of the world's most successful cinema franchises. Sixty years later, the James Bond phenomenon, a cultural icon of heroic resolve, is stronger than ever.
The new videos below are directed by Angelica Zollo, daughter of Barbara Broccoli. In 2021, FSWL contributor Lluis Abbou Planisi interviewed Angelica, read it here.
007 x The Macallan | SCOTLAND
“The landscape tells the story. James Bond’s Scottish roots were really fundamental to who he was as a character.” - Barbara Broccoli
007 x The Macallan | INNOVATION
“The gadgets have always been aspirational... sometimes things that don’t exist, even now, but could possibly exist.” – Meg Simmonds
We note that the famous 007 gun logo is not featured in the videos above. This marks the second time this year it has been removed from official partnerships (the Cypher game being the first), so it’s not an accident.
