I visited this island back in the summer of 2000 with my good mate Jonas, who also is a Bond fan but perhaps not that fanatic as yours truly.
We stayed on the island for a week out of one full day was dedicated entirely to finding the filming locations for
For Your Eyes Only (1981) which was partly filmed here in September 1980.
Among places we visited the ones for Bond fans included the
Achilion Palace,
Danilia Village, the
Old Fortress in Corfu Town, and
Kanoni Island near the airport.
We also found the roads covered by olive trees where the car chase between
James Bond (played by
Roger Moore),
Melina Havelock (
Carole Bouquet) and
Kristatos (
Julian Glover) men were filmed.
We also found
Villa Sylva but that is now private property and closed for the public.
Corfu is a wonderful James Bond location and I strongly encourage every Bond fan to visit the island!
Will most definately go back to Corfu and also travel to the Greek mainland and visit
Meteora where the final scenes of the movie were shot.
Other locations that was used for the filming of
For Your Eyes Only and are worth visiting for all Bond travellers:
•
Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italy)
•
Hotel Miramonti (Cortina d’Ampezzo)
•
The Bahamas (underwater scenes)
Note:
Future James Bond,
Pierce Brosnan, visited the set in Corfu as his wife, Cassandra Harris, had a role in the film (
Countess Lisl) and she brought her daughter, Charlotte, and Pierce with her for the six-week filming. The legend says it was here
Cubby Broocoli first imagined Brosnan as a future 007.
