A visit to Bo'Ness Motor Museum in Scotland

In August 2006 I went to a former James Bond actor’s native country, Scotland.

The primary target was to attend Edinburgh Film festival who celebrated its 60th Anniversary with a personal city appearance by their greatest son, Sir Sean Connery himself.

Courtesy of and thanks to my friend Brian Smith of Bond and Beyond – The James Bond memorabilia specialist I had a wonderful time and was treated overwhelmingly well.

Among things Brian showed me thanks to his Volvo V70 was Fettes College (to which James Bond went in Ian Fleming's novels after being expelled from Eton) and Bo’ness Motor Museum in Falkirk.

The museum itself is certainly a genuine delight and memorable to visit and something I would recommend to any Bond fan or car enthusiast that travels to Scotland. Its founder and owner, Mr Colin Anderson welcomed us and toured us around his facilities which truly is fascinating and most impressive.

The lined up displays includes genuine movie props from several Bond films including a Lotus Esprit SI from THE SPY WHO LOVED ME (signed by Caroline Munro and Richard Kiel who both have been there), chairs from ‘Elliott Carver’s stealth ship in TOMORROW NEVER DIES, the rocket launcher and other props from THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, genuine ice pieces from the ice palace in DIE ANOTHER DAY.

The visitor will also spot a genuine AMC Hornet car (the same model as the one used in THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN), an Aston Martin DBS (the model used in ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE) and a Sunbeam Alpine (like the one used in DR NO). Also on display was the Aston Martin DB5 car used for the 40th Anniversary of GOLDFINGER in 2004 was driven and also signed by Shirley Eaton. As if this wasn’t enough you will also discover a bottle of Drambuie, signed by no others than Sir Sean Connery and George Lazenby.

Except the above mentioned items you will many, many more nice objects but they will all remain with me in order not to spoil anyone having planned to go there themselves.

The line from James Bond in THE SPY WHO LOVED ME could well be suited for Mr Anderson’s 007 museum:

“When one is in Edinburgh, one should delve deeply into its treasures”
