James Bond is missing and time is running out...

From Sweden with Love were kindly invited to the book launch of the new Bond novel Double Or Nothing at the offices of the publisher Harper Collins in central London on the evening of the 31st of August 2022. Kim Sherwood, the author, was present to answer questions from an invited audience and to sign copies of the new novel.

Kim won the Bath Novel Award for her debut novel Testament published in 2018 and she was shortlisted for the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year in 2019. Kim has a Bond connection being the granddaughter of the actor George Baker who made three appearances in the James Bond movies – most famously playing Sir Hilary Bray in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) starring George Lazenby.

She discussed her early childhood and her introduction to Fleming through reading From Russia With Love (1957) which began a lifelong love to Fleming’s writings and she’s clearly dedicated the years understanding the DNA that makes Fleming’ Bond and has been able to bring her own twist on the modern version in the new novel. There is a new car and gadgets , exotic locations, some familiar recognisable characters but the unique difference in this adventure versus previous Bond continuity novels is the expanded James Bond universe with some additional 00s and interwoven stories.

When you listen to Kim discussing Bond and Fleming you can feel her infectious passion for her lifelong love of the stories, the style and the construction of the storytelling and her goal to bring her own modern generational twist to the characters whilst respecting the roots.
