Report from the book launch party for Darker Than The Sun (2025) at Stanfords in London

The official book launch party for Darker Than The Sun: An Atlas of James Bond Movie Locations from Quarto Publishing was held at Stanfords Travel in London's Covent Garden area. A drinks reception was followed by a Q&A moderation by the authors. This lasted for about 30 minutes and was followed by a book signing.

James Bond cast and crew members in attendance included producer Anthony Waye, actress Caroline Munro, actress Martine Beswicke, stunt coordinator Vic Armstrong and his wife, stunt woman Wendy Armstrong. They have all contributed to Darker Than The Sun in various capacities.

Stanfords are the UK's leading specialist retailer of maps, travel books, and other travel accessories, having been established in 1853 by Edward Stanford. After 118 years at their Long Acre address the flagship store has relocated to a new London home on Mercer Walk in Covent Garden. Their roll-call of customers past and present includes such famous names as Amy Johnson, David Livingstone, Captain Robert Falcon Scott, Ernest Shackleton, Florence Nightingale, Ranulph Fiennes, Bill Bryson, Michael Palin, and even Sherlock Holmes. And now James Bond - sort of! A fitting venue to launch a 007 atlas.

Appropriately, distinguished representatives from the International Bond Press attended including yours truly From Sweden with Love, Cinema Retro co-founder Dave Worrall, The Ian Fleming Foundation co-founder from the US Doug Redenius, Catching Bullets: Memoirs of a Bond Fan author Mark O'Connell, producer Charles Delaney, YouTuber Calvin Dyson, Ciaran Brown of 007GB, Behind The Tuxedo author Llouis Abbou of Spain's Archivo 007, Peter Brooker and Rob Smith from the There Will Be Bond podcast, Germany's Philip Dethlefs from James Bond Or Nothing, David Llewelyn-Egan of Shaken Not Stirred, Rory Emery from The Moment: Original Movie Posters (who also displayed some classic James Bond film posters), Scott Hardy from the SpyHards podcast, and Vipul Patel from MI6-HQ.
