Here are the day-to-day highlights:
FRIDAY APRIL 23
• The festivities kick off in London at the Henry VIII Hotel, conveniently located in Bayswater just blocks from beautiful Hyde Park. Our tour alumni have stayed here before and know it's a great location. The tour starts with an evening get-together that includes a buffet dinner and a welcome drink at the hotel's bar/restaurant. Mingle with old friends and meet new fellow movie enthusiasts.
SATURDAY APRIL 24
• After breakfast (included), this will be a day devoted to the legend of James Bond. The details are being kept top secret until late December by the organizers. We can say it should be a very exciting event and involve a large number of cast and crew from the 007 screen adventures. Our day will also include a very special Cinema Retro celebrity event at the Movieum, the London museum of movie history. There will also be a special dinner event that will take place on the evening (included).
SUNDAY APRIL 25
• After breakfast (included) , we're off via motor coach for a visit to the beautiful country village of Mapledurham, where the classic 1976 WWII thriller The Eagle Has Landed was filmed. Cinema Retro's Dave Worrall will personally guide everyone through the fascinating story behind this exciting adventure film, which starred Michael Caine, Donald Sutherland and Robert Duvall. Even if you haven't seen the film, you'll appreciate our day in Mapledurham, especially since we'll be getting there via a scenic two hour boat ride down the Thames - lunch on-board included. The day will include a guided tour of the historic Mapledurham manor house.
• Upon returning to the hotel in the early evening, the rest of the night is free for you to explore London.
MONDAY APRIL 26
• Following breakfast (included), we'll depart from London and explore some of the most beautiful parts of England - beginning with a stroll around Stratford-Upon-Avon, Shakespeare's legendary home. The real treat comes later in the afternoon when we check into Ettington Park, one of the oldest and most exclusive guest mansions in England, dating back to the 1400s. We'll spend the night here and celebrate Robert Wise's classic 1963 film The Haunting, which was shot on the premises (the mansion deserved co-star billing!) In the evening, you'd better have your courage up, as we'll be screening and discussing the film over a sumptuous candlelight dinner (included). Then we'll hear stories of the actual haunting which allegedly take place at the mansion. You can lock your bedroom door - but it won't do you any good!
TUESDAY APRIL 27
• Following breakfast (included), we travel by motor coach to the city of Bradford, where we will check into the historic Midland Hotel. We'll be touring the National Media Museum, which is dedicated to British film heritage and meet with the museum's director Tony Earnshaw. Following dinner at the hotel (included), we'll be in for a real treat as we escort you to the last remaining Cinerama Theater in Europe where Cinema Retro will sponsor a special one-night screening of the 1962 MGM classic How the West Was Won. It will be shown in the original Cinerama widescreen, three-projector format, making for an unforgettable evening for any movie fan.
WEDNESDAY APRIL 28
• Following breakfast (included), we're off to the enchanting Lake District, known to be one of the most beautiful areas of England. We'll be stopping in the market town of Ulverston, birthplace of Stan Laurel. We'll make a visit to the Laurel and Hardy Museum and have time to stroll around and perhaps have a pint in the Stan Laurel Pub which is dedicated to the comedy legend. From here, we drive to the beautiful town of Keswick to visit The Cars of the Stars Museum that houses classic vintage automobiles from legendary films and TV series. Next, we'll go to the nearby new James Bond Museum where we will see vehicles from the 007 series including the original BSA bike from Thunderball. We've arranged for the museum to stay open late exclusively for our group, and we'll enjoy a champagne buffet meal (included) with the museum's owner and director, Peter Nelson. From here, we'll be traveling a bit more, checking in late in the evening at a hotel en route to our next destination.
THURSDAY APRIL 29
• Following breakfast (included), we're in for a very special day. We travel to Wales to visit the quaint and legendary Portmeirion, better known as The Village in the classic TV series The Prisoner. It was here that Patrick McGoohan tried to escape his mysterious captors - though the sheer beauty of the place will make you wonder why! We will have an expert on The Prisoner guide us through the village and you will have plenty of time to lunch in one of the eateries. In late afternoon, we travel back to the outskirts of London to check into our final hotel, The Holiday Inn Express in the town of Slough.
FRIDAY APRIL 30
• Our final full day starts with a walking tour led by Dave Worrall around legendary Pinewood Studios. The studios are closed to the public but we have once again received permission to bring our tour group through this amazing and historic "home" of James Bond and many other legendary British film series. You'll be given an opportunity to buy souvenirs and official studio clothing from the Pinewood store.
• In the evening, plan for a very special farewell dinner at Stoke Park, one of England's most exclusive golf clubs - and scene of the famed match between James Bond and Goldfinger. We'll toast our tour in style with a gourmet dinner - and hopefully look forward to our next exciting adventure together.
SATURDAY MAY 1
• Following check out from the hotel, we'll be providing a motor coach to Victoria Station in London. From here, it's easy to get anywhere including both Gatwick and Heathrow Airports.
As always, you can count on, where possible, being joined by some of the people who actually appeared in or helped create the movies we are celebrating. However, as is our custom, we don't announce specific guests in advance to ensure attendees are never disappointed if a celebrity can't attend at the last minute.
