Daniel Craig (James Bond in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace) plays the leading role in Edward Zwick's WWII drama Defiance. The film, titled Motstånd in Sweden, premieres at cinemas on 14th April 2009.
The reality-based and astonishing story of the Bielski Partisans, who fought against the Nazis and saved numerous lives during the dark years of World War II, is based on the novel
The Bielski Partisans by Nechama Tech.
Three brothers, played by Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell, which even today is spoken of as the unsung heroes, dared to defy the Nazis during WWII and saved 1 200 lives, equally as many as the far more famous Oskar Schindler.
When their family is tragically shattered by the German invasion forces during the occupation of Poland, a flame no one can stop arises within them. Many friends and family members are murdered mercilessly by the Germans. But instead of giving up and escape, they decide to stay and survive. They hide in the inaccessible forests surrounding their community and themselves gathering their entire village population. With the dense forest as a base, they fights the enemies smartly and ruthless. Their courage and determination to survive is their ultimate weapon.
