Stunts on YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE 1967 and then on every Bond from DAF 1971 to THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS 1987

I was very happy to meet another legend from the stunt business, Doug Robinson, at Pinewood Studios in November 2011 where we chatted about his work on the Bonds. Having previously met his brother, Joe, a dear friend of mine, it was wonderful to see Doug.

About Doug Robinson:
Douglas Bowbank Robinson was born 1930 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England and he is the younger brother of fellow actor/stunt man Joe Robinson. Their father, Joseph Robinson Sr., and grandfather John, were world champion wrestlers. Both brothers trained in wrestling and body-building.

Doug's film career began in the mid-1950s, and his early film work included Ben Hur (1959). He was also one of the Argonauts in Jason and the Argonauts (1963), and he made numerous British television appearances, usually as a tough guy in everything from The Avengers (1962-1964) to Steptoe and Son (1974).

Together, Doug and Joe became two of the cinema's most popular stunt arrangers, particularly on the James Bond films. As an example, they taught actress Honor Blackman Judo self-defense tactics for her part in "The Avengers" (1961). The two brothers appeared as foils in many pictures for her 1965 book Honor Blackman's Book of Self-Defence.

Our friend Jon Auty interviewed Doug a couple of years ago, we are happy to reproduce part of that interview on FSWL.
