I ett säsongshälsnings-PM från Miss Moneypennys skrivbord i London meddelar Ian Fleming Publications en rad spännande litterära nyheter att se fram emot under 2024 för James Bond fans.. Klassificering: Guldnivå (For Your Eyes Only)
Meddelandet lyder enligt följande...
“Till våra agenter på fältet,
The cogs (a.k.a. secretaries, undersecretaries, armourers, agents and captives) at MI6 HQ never truly stop turning, but we’re approaching the time of year where things do generally begin to slow, at least for a moment.
It’s a welcome chance to catch our breath and spend time with the loved ones (partners, barmen, tailors) who are so patient with us and our long hours throughout the rest of the year. So too is it a chance to reflect on the year just passed.
During 2023 we have had the pleasure of working rather more closely with the team at
Ian Fleming Publications, as they’ve brought their publishing efforts in-house with their own imprint, publishing a grand total of twenty books in their first year. These include new paperback editions of
Ian Fleming’s Bond adventures (available in a limited edition boxed set
here), as well as his two non-fiction titles (Thrilling Cities and The Diamond Smugglers). New editions of three fan-favourite 007 titles were released in October, all complete with brand new introductions: Colonel Sun, Zero Minus Ten and James Bond: The Authorised Biography.
And of course, we can’t forget
On His Majesty’s Secret Service (2023) – written, published and on the Sunday Times bestseller list, all in the space of just four months. This project was conceived to celebrate the Coronation of
King Charles III and, with all royalties going to the National Literacy Trust, Agent Higson has certainly done us proud. He recently signed some copies which are now available to order if you’ve been wanting to get your hands on one.
Signed copies are available
here.
A heads-up that if you’re getting ready to settle down in front of the fire with a good book in your upcoming downtime (I have it on good authority this is one of M’s great pleasures – and he must not be disturbed during it), but are missing the ‘good book’ part, you’re in luck. This month the eBook edition of
Anthony’s Horowitz’s thrilling
With a Mind to Kill (2021) is available to buy for just 99p on Kindle UK
here.
Trust that our 2024 strategy is approved and ready to put into action. I do believe I’ll be able to share some of it with you in January – we have some exciting missions planned.
With this year marking the 60th anniversary of
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1963), it’s fitting to leave you with some festive words from Fleming himself:
They were having a party up there, celebrating something. What fun these rich folk had, to be sure! And then Bond remembered. But of course! It was Christmas Eve! God rest ye merry gentlemen, let nothing ye dismay! Bond's skis hissed an accompaniment as he zigzagged fast down the beautiful snow slope. White Christmas! Well, he'd certainly got himself that!
Sincerely,
Miss Moneypenny
P.S. Spare a thought (and save a mince pie) for our colleagues who have drawn the short straw this year and will be on the ‘skeleton crew’ safeguarding the country whilst the rest us make merry. Loelia, dear, if you’re reading this, James has promised to bring you back a bottle of something special – unopened.
P.P.S. Please also remember to disable any of Q’s home security systems around the chimney on December 24th.”
