ON THE TRACKS OF OO7: GUIDE TO JAPAN BY MARTIJN MULDER

On The Track Of 007: Guide To Japan is a new book from Dutch publisher DMD Digital written by long-time FSWL friend and supporter Martijn Mulder. Martijn recently organized an amazing and truly unforgettable two-week tour of Japan for a group of 40 participants including members of the From Sweden with Love team.

"The ONLY book you need to find and visit the real-life film locations featured in one of the most entertaining James Bond films to date. And one location from the most popular Bond film in recent years. Martijn has yet again done a sterling job."
Anders Frejdh

Go on an exciting adventure to exotic Japan and revisit the filming locations of the fifth James Bond film You Only Live Twice (1967).

On The Track Of 007 Guide to Japan
In 1966, Eon Productions decided to film the fifth James Bond adventure in Japan: You Only Live Twice, based on the novel by Ian Fleming which was published two years before. The film that resulted from these efforts came out in 1967 and was an unsurpassed visual spectacle. The exciting Tokyo neon signs, the beautiful countryside temples and the rural villages and volcanoes gave the film a very exotic background. Today, Japan is still a very attractive travel destination and this book will encourage you to follow the tracks of her majesty’s best-known secret agent.

On The Track Of 007 Guide to Japan
Written by Martijn Mulder (author of On the tracks of 007), with an introduction by Oscar® winning sound editor Norman Wanstall, this guide contains 170 pages filled with info, behind the scenes photos, location photos and maps. It is the ultimate field guide dedicated to the 50th anniversary of You Only Live Twice.

Go on an exciting journey from Tokyo to Kagoshima, revisiting all the filming locations used in You Only Live Twice. From Osato Chemicals HQ to Tiger Tanaka’s countryside house, from Blofeld’s volcano base to the remote shrine where Bond married Kissy. It's an action-packed adventure for movie buffs, Bond fans and film location hunters. Includes a bonus trip to Hashima (Gunkanjima or Battleship Island) in Nagasaki Bay, which served as the model for Silva’s hideout in Skyfall (2012).

THE MAKING OF THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS (1987)

Charles Helfenstein's latest book, The Making of The Living Daylights, is published in paperback by Spies Publishing.

For the 25th anniversary of the most successful film franchise in history, Cubby Broccoli's Eon Productions launched James Bond in a bold new direction with a spectacular globe-trotting adventure that showcased incredible stunts, gorgeous cinematography, and a smoldering romance set amongst elegant old world Europe and breathtaking vistas of Africa.

Go behind the scenes with the cast and crew, and see how veteran director John Glen put together a mammoth effort to take the series back to its thriller origins, rooted by the casting of Timothy Dalton, a noted stage actor and fan of Ian Fleming's novels.

Follow the complete history of the film, from the origins of Fleming's short story, through early drafts of the script (where James Bond was a brash young Lieutenant in the Royal Navy), through Pierce Brosnan securing the role then losing it, Dalton's last minute casting, pre-production, shooting, post-production, to the release and marketing of the film.

Based on years of research, cast and crew interviews, access to original scripts, storyboards, production memos, call sheets, props, and more, this fascinating look behind the scenes features hundreds of never before published photographs, including a detailed look at deleted scenes.

CINEMA SEX SIRENS BY LEE PFEIFFER & DAVE WORRALL

Publication of CINEMA SEX SIRENS, published by Omnibus Press, is a unique collection of photographs of female stars of the '60s and '70s. Foreword by Sir Roger Moore.

That period marked a new era of frankness in society and the movie industry lost no time in following suit after some 25 years of censorship and self-imposed regulations. The women who became the new erotic goddesses also became world-famous and defined a generation's view of sexuality.

Dave Worrall and Lee Pfeiffer's gallery illustrates a luminous collection of idealized women and offers a fascinating insight into the movies' depiction of female sexuality during the '60s and '70s. From the indisputable legends to actresses whose used their beauty to gain fame in the short-term through exploitation movies, this book provides little-known insights into their lives and careers.

Chapters include:
• Hollywood Or Bust: The Early Years
• ... And God Created the Sex Symbol
• The Russ Meyer Ladies
• The Women of Blaxploitation

The must-have Bond book for all 007 scholars - The Making of On Her Majesty's Secret Service - by Charles Helfenstein is published.

From novel to script to screen, this book details the incredible journey of making the most unique entry in the James Bond film series, the longest running, most successful film franchise in history.

"I just received this. It costs $62.63, but it's definately worth it. It is far better than the handful of official 'Making of' books for specific Bond films. The author Charles Helfenstein is the absolute world's authority on this film. 290 pages.

Extremely well researched. Lavishly illustrated, with many rare photos."

1 MARCH 2009
THE SHEPPERTON STORY BY GARETH OWEN (BOOK)

Publication of The Shepperton Story: A History of the World-famous film studios written by Gareth Owen and published by The History Press.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of the Middlesex countryside, near to the massive Queen Mary reservoir, is a once former estate now known as Shepperton Film Studios.

Shepperton, like most other UK studios: Pinewood, Elstree, Ealing, Denham and Bray, is centred around a one-time country house, Littleton Park Manor. Though unlike the other major studios, Shepperton was not initially controlled by a company with production, distribution and/or exhibition interests. It could be said that Shepperton was a truly independent studio, with an independent spirit.

The magic of the grand once-stately home has been enjoyed by many famous stars and film-makers over eight decades, such as Sir Alexander Korda, Sir David Lean, Sir Carol Reed, Humphrey Bogart, Orson Welles, Sir John Mills, John Wayne, Charlie Chaplin, Deborah Kerr, Peter Cushing, Sir Alec Guinness, Lord Attenborough, Lord Olivier, Carol Reed, Dame Margaret Rutherford, The Boulting Brothers, Peter Sellers (father of Victoria Sellers), Sigourney Weaver, Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hanks, Robert Downey Jr, Launder & Gilliat, Sir Michael Caine, Dame Edith Evans, Sylvester Stallone, Robert DeNiro, Russell Crowe, Nicole Kidman, Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst, Colin Farrell and Brendan Fraser – to name but a few.

They brought films such as The Third Man, Richard III, The Tales Of Hoffman, Dr Strangelove, The Day The Earth Caught Fire, I’m All Right Jack, Flash Gordon, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Alien, Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, The Crying Game, Gladiator, Troy and The DaVinci Code … to life.

Whilst proud of its past Shepperton Studios is also very much geared to the future, with extensive refurbishment and investment, state of the art post-production and digital effects facilities and, of course, healthy bookings in the diary. But how did it all start? How did this little area in south west London became synonymous with the best in film production?

Also covered in the book is the troubled James Bond film production of Casino Royale (1967), and features interviews with some of the film-makers including one of director-writer Val Guest's last interviews.

PICTURES AND PREMIERES: MYERS, WILLIS & OWEN

Publication of Pictures and Premieres by Harry Myers, John Willis and Gareth Owen from Robert Hale Ltd, hardcover version which retails for 25 pound.

The culmination of several years of work, and 60 years in the business, Pictures And Premieres was launched in a blaze of glory at the Odeon Leicester Square London, on September 12th 2007. The first book launch ever at the cinema.

The glorious photographs, so brilliantly reproduced with Harry Myers' anecdotes and recollections lead to a must-have volume for anyone - be it film fans, photograph lovers or the casual reader.

Book description:
For nearly six decades, Harry Myers has been a photographer of Royalty and show business occasions. Since 1946, he has been monitoring the annual Royal Film Performance and was continuously employed by what used to be called "Wardour Street" as the film companies' official photographer at their starry celebrations. He has photographed virtually every major film star and movie mogul who came to London to lead the razzmatazz and ballyhoo as their films enriched the nation's cinema screens. The camera unveils a remarkable pictorial record of a former cinematic age of protocol and elegance and reveals a fascinating glimpse of a Royal family graciously ageing over the decades.

From Fred Astaire to Hollywood pioneer Adolph Zukor, from James Bond and the Beatles to Elizabeth Taylor and John Wayne, Harry and his son Scott, who has now inherited his red carpet mantle, have been on hand to capture actors lionized in Hollywood who were prepared to undertake long sea voyages and air travel to promote their latest cinematic efforts to shake hands with the Queen and other members of the Royal family.

Now with collaborators John Willis and Gareth Owen, Harry has opened his vast archive to produce Pictures and Premieres.

About the authors:
John Willis has had a varied career in the entertainment industry, ranging from press officer for Walt Disney and later unit publicity director on such films as the original Casino Royale, Diamonds Are Forever and The Battle of Britain. He co-founded and was co-director of Complete Media Consultants, which numbered Columbia Pictures among its clients before joining the London bureau of US entertainment newspaper, Variety, where he was general manager and advertising sales director.

Gareth Owen is based at Pinewood Studios and runs Sir Roger Moore's office. He is author of four books: The Pinewood Story; Roger Moore: His Films & Career; Albert J. Luxford: The Gimmick Man; and Alan Hume: A Life Through the Lens.
