Tchéky Karyo was born in 1953 in Istanbul, Turkey, and grew up in Paris. He is one of France's most popular and recognized actors and has appeared in film, television and theatre since the early 1980s.

Tchéky studied drama at the Sorano Theater before joining Compagnie Daniel Benoin and in 1975 started at the Théâtre National de Strasbourg.

In the 1980s, Tchéky appeared on theatre in plays such as Bertolt Brecht, Thomas Brach, Peter Handke, Marie-Louise Fleisser, and Thomas Achterbush. He also appeared in La tectonique des sentiments by Eric Emmanuel Schmit at Théâtre Marigny. Tchéky was nominated for a César Award (Most promising actor" for his performance in La Balance (1982), and has also received the prestigious Jean Gabin Award.

Apart from his role as "Defence Minister Dmitri Mishkin" in GoldenEye (1995) (1995) his voluminous acting credits include Nikita (1990), Bad Boys (1995), Addicted to Love (1997), Saving Grace (2000), The Patriot (2000), Kiss of the Dragon (2001), The Good Thief (2002), A Previous Engagement (2008). Karyo has also released a music album, Ce Lien Qui Nous Unit.
